New Stills And Poster For "A Scanner Darkly"!
Are you eagerly anticipating Richard Linklater's upcoming sci-fi adaptation, "A Scanner Darkly?" Now you can see the film's official poster, plus more new stills featuring Linklater's eye-popping rotoscope animation!
There are a few reasons to get excited about the summer 2006 release of "A Scanner Darkly": it's a sci-fi mystery adapted from legendary author Philip K. Dick's 1977 novel, it's got a stellar cast that includes Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Woody Harrelson, Rory Cochrane and Robert Downey Jr., and it will employ the supercool rotoscoping animation technique Linklater used in 2001's "Waking Life," combining live-action performances with mind-bending visuals. The official synopsis:
"A Scanner Darkly" is set in suburban Orange County, California in a future where America has lost the war on drugs. When one reluctant undercover cop is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode. It is a cautionary tale of drug use based on the novel by Philip K. Dick and his own experiences.

on Mar 12 2006 01:37 AM i actually saw this last sept. at an advance screening(obviously), and it was just alright; hard to follow at times.. the director told us before the movie that it was just a rough copy and they will be making changes to it. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 17 2006 10:31 PM In reply to this comment (#831944) It was done in this style because Rick wanted it to look like a graphic novel come to life. It was pushed back because we didn't finish it until January, Warner Independent needs at least 5 months to promote a film, and it could not interfere with any scheduled releases of Mr. Reeves. We had to draw on every frame of this film, only had 45 animators, and did it in one year. Let me see you try that. (Reply to this) |

I don't have a link for you guys but it's in the March issue. The long/short of it? Linklater states he'll never make another animated film! My understanding is the studio (Warner) had to step in to make sure it was completed, firing many of the original animation crew. Whoa, still the trailers look great and the book is super-creepy. I don't know how well it's gonna play during summer (crappy I'm sure) but I think it has a chance. (Reply to this) |
