Reviews for Walking on the Sky
Walking on the Sky would barely pass muster as an Off-Off-Broadway offering.
Carl T. Evans' tedious drama Walking on the Sky serves primarily as an acting exercise for its cast and a showcase for its primary location, a scenic Manhattan rooftop.
It’s to be hoped that by his next film, his director’s gift won’t be shortchanged by the writer in him mistaking psychological complexity for acting-school exercises.
Carl T. Evans's semi-autobiographical film is a modern-day Big Chill wannabe without the subtlety, humor, memorable soundtrack, strong performances or convincing dialogue.
I haven't spent an hour and a half with worse company since high school detention.
Six Lower Manhattan thirty somethings ponder the suicide of a mutual friend in Walking on the Sky, a tediously self-absorbed variation on The Big Chill and The Return of the Secaucus 7.
If Evans' own solipsistic characters are meant to reflect where some of us are in 2005, we're in deep trouble.
This is grounded by a leaden, cliché-ridden script that lacks the emotional truth and depth to make us care much for any of these people.
Randall Batinkoff and the rest of the cast make do with wooden lines (e.g., 'I love you. I can live without the corn dogs') and a plot that fails to jell.
