I liked the movie but hated how they cranked up the violence on all the scenes yet changed the end which was about the only horrific part of the comic. (Reply to this) |

rockclmbr6 writes: on Jun 25 2009 02:51 PM I can't believe people are still talking about the "blue penis." Are we really still living in an age where we can't watch a movie with nudity? Do people really think that by seeing someone else's penis it's going to turn you gay? My God. I'm going to assume most of the people posting are male. You all have penises. You see them daily. Get OVER IT. Anyway, I liked the movie. It was one of the most faithful book-to-film adaptations I've seen in a long time, the visuals were stunning, and I even liked the changed ending. I'll probably end up waiting for Blu-ray for the directors cut though. (Reply to this) |

It wasn't perfect - it had some big flaws, but in my estimation, it's still vastly superior to most of the comic book fare that's out there (either FANTASTIC FOUR, any X-movie except maybe X2, and SPIDER-MAN 3 to name a few). I totally respect the ambition behind it, and I don't envy Snyder's position of trying to please the hardcore fans while still trying to create a movie. I think it's a story that works better with understated action, and I actually didn't like the superheroic sorts of scenes that featured them fighting because one of the key points of the graphic novel is to portray these heroes realistically. I dunno how much more Hollis Mason there is in there. I know they have a super-violent death scene that's included, though. (Reply to this) |

DivineCC writes: on Jun 25 2009 03:31 PM Wow, it says a lot about people if 4 or 5 shots of a blue penis is the most important thing in a movie and enough to make them hate it. Homophobic much? If it was blue boobs or a blue vagina, then I'm positive people wouldn't be reacting the way they are. (Reply to this) |

gm1200 writes: on Jun 25 2009 03:53 PM Wow...so instead of being an incredibly mediocre and boring movie based on an incredibly over-rated and boring comic....it will be an even longer and more boring movie based on an incredibly over-rated and boring comic. I can't wait. Oh and by the way...wasn't one of the big deals about this movie that the director had such control and did what he wanted? The existance of a directors cut suggests he didn't get to release the movie he wanted...sounds pretty disengenuous...but I guess they do have to milk some more money out of the couple thousand people worldwide who actually cared about this film. gm1200 writes: on Jun 25 2009 03:57 PM Oh and Zed's Dead...him not being able to handle male frontal nudity isn't the issue...he probably just thought it was pointless and un-necessary (yes I know its in the books...which is a whole nother story). And any guy being disgusted by male nudity is simply the way of the world...and completely natural...its the guys who pretend it doesn't make them gag who have the issue. That said...I was able to ignore the offending member...but that didn't make the movie any less ridiculous...the nekkid issue is only one of many pointless aspects of the entire thing (books and movie). Zed'sDead writes: on Jun 25 2009 06:07 PM In reply to this comment (#2517276) gm1200, you really sound incredibly ignorant man. "any guy being disgusted by male nudity is simply the way of the world...and completely natural..." I really have to disagree with that. It's only disgusting if you live in a small world and it's only natural to be disgusted by it if you're either small-minded or homophobic. If you are a straight man, the only reason you should be disgusted by the male genitalia is if another man is actually trying to use it on you. So let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly...in order to be a male and be a doctor, surgeon, artist or coroner, you have to have the genetic gift to not be disgusted by male nudity??? Or maybe just be blind? Or even better, maybe all males in that profession are actually gay? Come on man... (Reply to this) |

GST writes: on Jun 25 2009 06:23 PM In reply to this comment (#2517226) Agreed, good lord, when I saw it the second time was the worst, there were a group of teens laughing in the back and would not shut up about his penis (and the owl ship sex scene, which was supposed to be funny and ironic) and pretty much asking what was going on every 5 minutes. What I really wish, though, is if the Director's Cut, and the Ultimate cut, are different (I.E. the ultimate cut excluding scenes from the director's cut, and putting in TFTBF), that they would just release the entire freaking version, everything in there. I think if that happened, with all the narrative problems fixed, it could be a 10/10 movie. (Reply to this) |

man in the water writes: on Jun 25 2009 09:09 PM Boy I can't wait. I hope they show it in IMAX, where it was great to see. And geez people are so prudish and immature when it comes to nudity. Its not like you've never seen a penis before. Yeah great excuse to hate the film. And when we're talking about nudity, Manhattan's penis is inexcusable, but that epic sex scene if perfectly fine. Grow up everyone! And people say it hurt the R-rating, it did not. People hurt the film, it was essentially a character piece, with some action thrown in, which many masses just cannot grasp. Ultimale069 writes: on Jun 25 2009 10:27 PM Who else here sees the irony that Dr. Manhatten abandoned clothes because his intellect grew to the point he was unconcerned with trivial aspects of society such as the need to hide one's "shame," and its all the ignorant people talking about how wrong it was. Let's not have a discussion on whether the sacrifice of millions is justified because it saves the life of billions. Let's not discuss whether heroes are out saving the world because they are as psychologically disturbed as the villains. Let's focus on the big blue penis because, clearly, that was all the movie had to offer. The sheer stupidity of people is enough to make a sane man go crazy. (Reply to this) |

Cory B. writes: on Jun 30 2009 08:27 PM Not everyone who didn't like Watchmen were zeroing in on Manhattan's dong. Here's several reasons why I didn't like it: 1) For inadequately explored reasons, Richard Nixon's nose is huge. What the heck? I mean, I know a lot of things about Nixon are subject to ridicule, but his nose? Really? 2) The last sex scene was needlessly long, and had a laughable soundtrack behind it. I get the feeling that it was trying to be campy, but to me it was just cringe-inducing. 3) The "bad guy" in the story just surfaces from time-to-time. He was a woefully underdeveloped character. 4) I didn't expect quality on the level of The Dark Knight, but I at least expected that seeing the movie would make me want to read the book. It did not. Logically, I was disappointed. I love the concept behind the movie, and I love the story at its core. The problem is that Watchmen spent way too much time developing the unnecessary filler (Silk Spectre 2's love life, much of the Comedian's past) and not nearly enough developing the really interesting aspects of the story. The ending, as unique as it is, still was unsatisfying and felt rushed. We spent so much time watching pointless backstory and -BOOM!- the movie is suddenly over. A damn shame, because the story deserved a much better adaptation. (Reply to this) |
