Warner Bros. Will Bring DC's "Metal Men" to the Screen
by Scott Weinberg | April 05, 2007
Discuss Article
Ever heard of a comic book called "Metal Men"? Came out around 1962? From DC Comics? Nah, me neither, but it looks like someone over at Warner Bros. remembers these guys...

"X-Men" series producer Lauren Shuler Donner will oversee the "Metal Men" and their transformation from comic book characters to big-screen heroes. Apparently they're a team of six robots, and each one has their own distinctive skills, powers, personalities, and ... elements. (Gold, iron, lead, tin, mercury, and platinum, if you must know.) Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru, the "Metal Men" act as a dysfunctional family as well as a futuristic crime-stopping unit. (So the movie will be "X-Men" meets "Robocop," maybe? If so, cool.)

Comic book author Geoff Johns is also attached on the creative side, as is "Mr. 3000" screenwriter Eric Champnella. No word yet on who'll be directing ... but I bet it'll be someone with lots of experience in the field of CGI. What I wanna know is this: Will DC's "Metal Men" make it to cinema screens before Marvel's "Iron Man" does? Hmmmm.....

so stupid. i hope chemo, the plastic toxic man is... oh, this is just so stupid i can't continue. Seriously, i wikipedia-ed these guys. the story is going to be retarded. IF THEY HAVE TO, it should be a pixar film. Everything computered or nothing, but if this was live action, it would be a cgi bore. (in my opinion at least...)

Iron Man and The Metal Men are two completely different concepts and would make no difference which one made it to the screen first. Also DC comics is makeing a big splash with bringing this group of characters back in the pages of Superman/Batman so maybe that's why all of a sudden this obscure team is being pitched as a movie. Try not to bash something that you know nothing about and actually had to look up on the internet just so you could make a comment.

Hmmm ... very odd choice of characters for a movie. I always thought the Metal Men were kind of dumb -- shapeshifting robots, sort of like a whole team of Plastic Men. I guess someone at WB thinks otherwise, but I can't really see the point of a project like this, when there are still so many higher profile, more interesting superheroes that haven't been filmed yet.

If they emphasize on the dysfunctional nature, this movie could stand out in a sea of Comic book movies.

Hey, I read the Metal Men comics when I was a kid (my dad had saved them from when he was a kid) and I thought it was a great series...actually I often thought that the Transformers writers may have been a bit inspired by this series.

This could be a really interesting, definitely not like your average super hero movie.

Out of all the stupid crappy... out of all the decent good... The Metal Men don't even have a dedicated series OR miniseries in print right now, so why the hell are they on the top of WB's list for adaptations? Why not Fables? Why not the FREAKING GREEN LANTERN???? Aquaman? Martian Manhunter? Sgt Rock?? The choices are plenty!! Why the damn metal men?
