Thierry Martin is a failed poet struggling to make a success out of the business he inherited from his father. His wife, Zandalee, runs a clothes shop and is left sexually unfulfilled because of her husband's mounting frustrations. Enter Johnny Collins, an old friend of Thierry's and an impoverished painter. Thierry hires Johnny to do some odd jobs, but soon Johnny and Zandalee get busy eying each other. They become entangled in a torrid affair, and as the relationship intensifies, Thierry finds out what's going on behind his back. He decides not to confront Johnny and instead takes his wife down to the Louisiana bayou.
