The Simpsons Movie -- An Update
by RT Staff | December 13, 2004
Discuss Article
If and when there is a "Simpsons" movie, it will be at the service of a story that deserves feature length, producer James L. Brooks told IGN FilmForce. While mum on specifics, Brooks said the "Simpsons" team has been slowly edging toward making a film and doing some of the things that can't be done within the confines of a half-hour TV show format. Brooks is directing the forthcoming "Spanglish," starring Adam Sandler.

I guess nothing is going to stop this craapy movie from being made. Does anyone remember how good the Simpsons used to be? It was the best show on T.V. Now its one of the worst.

i concur
imagine if they actually got some funny writers involved, gave up all the completly unfunny self-referencing and star-f**king that has draged my once-fav show into the toilet, and perhaps spend a reasonable amount of time developing a Good script instead of merely cashing in thier famous francise?
not gonna happen
the movie will only be made after even the die-hard fans flee from the rapidly sinking boat that was once funny, and you can bet it will be loaded wil those oh-so-clevar tounge-in-cheek guest appearences by stars in order to appeal to a wider viewing public, and, of course, the final insult will be the script--30 minuites of plot will be peppered wsith sappy reminders of years TV domination and lame-ass "jokes"
i for one dread the release of this flick

you know, at first I was like, "damn you two for saying that about the simpsons!" but you're both right. i used to watch the simpsons religiously, now i forgot that it was even on television anymore. i heard of an "Itchy and Scratchy" movie and i heard of a "Simpsons" movie, but it seems as though it's best if none of it was made until some actually funny intelligent writers come back. i miss the old simpsons, and i'm not one for guest stars every week, but once in a while is okay. they really have gone down far, but maybe they can redeem themselves. yet when has hollywood ever redeemed itself? it's going to take a Kurt Cobain of a movement to get this show on the right track, much less a movie.

I agree
You couldn't be more correct. It used to be that the show would use cameos as a neat little gag, but now it seems that the whole show revolves around the star voice. It's time for FOX to take Simpsons out, and give Arrested Development the better slot.

It seems as though Simpsons bashing is only popular on the "movie forum bitching" circuit. As I recall, and unfortunately I'm old enough to, the series was awful when it started. I hardly ever laughed, and the linear contrived plotlines dragged on forver. After the third or fourth season however, the series fell into a "laugh a minute", fast paced, surrealistic groove that only got better. I laugh more now than I ever have.

"Then how did I get this 'Father of the Year' mug?" "YOU bought it because it was full of gummy worms!" "And you only wanted them to catch gummy fish!"

If the writing in the movie is on par with the above quote, I can die happy.

And for God sake, "one of the worst shows on TV"? A bit extreme don't you think? Look at every other hit show on Fox and tell me it's in league with "The Swan" or "When Jews Attack".

scarh791 is right. The first season, I'd say is maybe a 4 out of 10 in quality. Season 2 started to pick up steam but was maybe a 7. Seasons 3 through 7 have got to be some of the best television ever. After that, it's dropped from those lofty standards, but I don't think the quality is below season 2.

Yeah right! The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th (mabye 5th and 6th) are the best seasons. The very earlier seasons had good plots and jokes that you actually had to comprehend, and were funnier than anyslap-stick comedy. For example- "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." The older the show got, it abolished the plot developement and concentrated almost solely on the jokes. This was tolerable untill they tried to cram so many jokes in that any failed to be clever or intellectual, all the characters were exactly the same, and every single joke falls flat on its face with a resounding slam which if they ever earn a smile, it is because it was such a bad joke. Perhaps why I call it one of the worst shows on T.V. is because it had potential, gained that potential, lost the potential, and just kept going on, gradually getting worse and worse. It actually pains me to watch this crap. Pain in the glavin. By the way, "When Jews Attack" is one of the greatest shows on t.v.

you know all the seasons were great that i seen and making a movie would be kool. the simpsons are great and the movie is gonna be good too. they have made so really stupid movies from a tv show before like bevis and butthead but they have made good ones too like south park. the simpson movie will probaly be better than on tv because they can swear more and do more s**t like that.

The Simpsons mightn't be as good as it used to be, but it's still a lot of fun. Calling it the worst show on TV is a *tad* cruel.
However I'm not sure if a Simpsons movie would be a good idea... if it is, why hasn't one been made already?
