Brad Bird on Incredibles 2
FilmFocus caught up with the director of last year's Oscar-winning animation "The Incredibles," Brad Bird, to talk about his plans for a sequel.
"Oh man," he said, "I don't know... I think I want to do something else for a little bit but I would love to return to these guys if the right project came about, because I love these characters. I have ideas that I didn't get to use in this movie that are good ideas."
Bird also told the website that he didn't think "Toy Story 3" would work without the original team producing it, saying, "They might be saying they'd do that, but it wouldn't be a good move for anybody because it would surely disappoint people and I think that Disney of all people are aware of how hard these films are to make and I think that deep down they respect that."
The director also talked about the state of CG animation in movies, "A lot more of these films are getting made," he said, "and that's going to be good news in some ways and bad news in others. I think that some people feel that all you need to do is take a bad idea and put it through a computer and it's going to become a good idea. I think those people are in for a rude awakening."

Ophiuchus writes: on Mar 16 2005 02:30 PM Thanks, cmarlow. It's nice to be appreciated. It's just that, with all this news about Disney's evil plotting to create ill-conveived sequels to Pixar movies, I think Brad Bird is being a tad too optimistic. (Reply to this) |

Banana Kid writes: on Mar 16 2005 03:41 PM Hey, I liked Shark Tale. I would like to see Incredibles 2. As long as Brad Bird directs it again, it would be good. Because do superhero sequels often disappoint? (Excluding Superman and Batman, of course.) (Reply to this) |

Super Simba writes: on May 17 2005 04:53 PM Woo, go Incredi-Two! Er...that sounded cheesy... Good point, Twirl. Brad might be speaking of the artists, but still, "they" is pretty vauge...And as to him being too optomistic? Well...If I were him, I wouldn't go out sceeching, "Oh my gawd, Disney SUCKS! HOW COULD THEY MAKE A TS3? HOW??? I tell you, those Disney guys are phsyco paths! DIE, DISNEY!" When he said TS3 wouldn't work without the original team, he was probably thinking something along the lines of this - just too nice to say it outloud. ;) Of course, TS3 will rick the B.O. After all, EVERYONE is going to say, "Hey, Toy Story! Which means Pixar! Which means a well spent 10 bucks!" Honestly, do ya really think any one will notice the lack of Pixar logo at the beginnig? They don't seem to notice the fact that Disney DIDN'T make Shrek, after all. And if TS3 is awful, stupid viewers will blame Pixar, thus soiling their name. Plus, even if they DO notice the lack of Pixar, they'll stilll see it anyway. Audiences have no clue that Disney and Pixar can't stand each other, or how much D & P split the money, or how they're splitting up, or that it's Pixar who makes the movies while Disney distributes them (I asked my freind wether or not he thought Disney should make TS3 w/o Pixar. He replied, "Yes. They don't need Pixar anymore." Huh?) The sad truth is that no one really cares who makes a movie or wether it's good or not. Exactly WHAT audiences see in films like Shark Tale (will you believe I only know 1 person who didn't like it?), I don't know. But as long as movies like this are continued to be made. They will make a bundle of bucks...Although...CGI films have been making less and less sice Shrek 2...hmm... (Reply to this) |
