Second "War of the Worlds" Teaser Hits...and It's a Doozy!
If the idea of Steven Spielberg directing an adaptation of H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds" doesn't sound exciting to you, then two things are pretty clear: 1. you may be just a little bit insane, and 2. you haven't seen this teaser trailer yet! (Click Trailer #2 and turn your speakers up!) Wells' classic tale of alien invasion has been adapted by screenwriter David Koepp ("Spider-Man," "Jurassic Park") and is due to overwhelm movie theaters on June 29th. Some fella named Tom Cruise is the star, and he'll be dodging aliens alongside Dakota Fanning, Miranda Otto, and Tim Robbins.

Count_Vertigo writes: on Mar 19 2005 01:15 AM WOW!!! The 2nd teaser trailer really makes me want to see this film, even without showing much more than was seen during the Super Bowl commercial. No offense to Tom Cruise's acting abilities, but I think he's met his match in Dakota Fanning. Just the look of sheer terror that crosses her face when she turns to see the coming devastation in the minivan makes me want to cry for her. How can someone so young be so good that she dwarfs her older costars (see Hide & Seek or Taken)? Here's hoping she doesn't fall into the child star trap (Maculay Culkin anyone?). (Reply to this) |

studiokat69 writes: on Mar 19 2005 05:59 AM In reply to this comment (#820683) War Of The Worlds trailer The begining kinda reminded me of the start of the Dawn of the Dead trailer, the whole leaving work thing. Juat a thought. The lightning idea is fantastic, maybe the strike 'activates' one of the alien war machines, which has been underground, or perhaps it impregnates the earth with the alien 'seed'. Yes, dakota Fanning looks fantastic, just hope her 'reaction' shots are not too overdone in the film, like, for instance Claire Danes in Terminator 3. The flash of the ferry scene, is that an Alien ship hovering above it? Aussie actress Miranda Otto has third billing on the film, and the trailer sees her dropping Dakota and a brother off at Cruises house, I've read that the whole story is based around Cruise and Fanning, and obviously Otto is featured in more scenes, I just hope there's no typical disaster flick 'reunion' a-la Deep Impact, Independance Day etc etc where Cruise battle's to find hes wife, or even more unbelievably, runs into her later in the piece. Just hope theyv'e made the film, gritty and real, not Summer fluff fare. I absolutely can't wait for this film, it's the first Spielberg film ive been really hyped up about in a long long time. Cheers (Reply to this) |

GVH writes: on Mar 21 2005 08:40 AM Yep. I kinda lost faith in Spielberg with AI's unecessary half hour, but then Minorty Report came along and was fine, really. The trailer for this looks awesome. It looks to be geared towards over-the-top disaster movie type action, but for what it is, it's looking great. I'm most definately gonna be watching this. (Reply to this) |

Ashron writes: on Mar 21 2005 01:32 PM In reply to this comment (#820684) He may very well go looking for her. If I remember from the original book, the hero goes to London to try and find his girlfriend amidst all the destruction, so depending o how close Koepp is sticking to the base story, a Cruise/Otto reunion may be in the future.
