Holmes Won't Be Invited Back for Batman Sequel
by RT Staff | June 21, 2005
Discuss Article
According to the New York Post, it has been reported that Katie Holmes will not be cast in the sequel to this weekend's number one movie, "Batman Begins." An unnamed source told the entertainment column at TVGuide.com that "[Batman's] next romantic interest will be a much stronger actress."

The IMDb newspage confirms the info and takes it a step further: "Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman have signed to star in a second Batman movie, but love interest Katie Holmes has been dropped. Movie bosses are thrilled with the response to Batman Begins ... and have snapped up the film's stars for a sequel ... But Holmes won't reprise her role as district attorney Rachel Dawes -- reportedly because Warner Bros is angry her engagement to Tom Cruise has stolen media attention away from the movie."

I am not going to lose sleep over it either. Cruise will probably star in a film with her after MI:3 to help her career, and will most definitely be a bad movie. Remember Penelope? Vanilla Sky

Oh, please! It sounds like Warner Bros. is passing the buck to Katie Holmes. The publicity of her lovelife likely actually helped business for "Batman Begins" this past weekend.

In the end, it is apparent Hollywood has run out of fresh ideas, and people just aren't that interested in seeing another Batman movie.

thank god...i find that whole engagement a sham and i am so sick of hearing about it...she wasn't much of a good actress and she's not really prety. i would love it if nicole kidman came back.

Makes no sense. It seems if anything, it helped the interest level that she's been in the news with Cruise. If Batman Begins was at 100% on RT and was directed by Peter Jackson or Spielberg, it still wouldn't have done much better than 50 million for the opening Friday-Sunday. People just had a bad taste in their mouth from the last Batman, and instead of getting this one done during the rise of superhero movies, it's finished during the time when people are sick of superheroes.

Who cares. It's good, will make money, best Batman yet. We'll see a sequel. That's all that matters. Stupid WB spin.

Is that really the best picture they could get of her?

What about Nolan?
I'd say Nolan is key to this thing. Is he going to sign, write a script, wait for a script, or what?

I'm sure there are other directors out there who can handle the next one, but I'd give it to Nolan if he's interested. I'm sure he learned a lot off of this one, and he did a really good job overall.

What a waste of some beautiful conflict.

Invite her back and let the bad guys kill her off.

But first, give her some competition for Batman in the
form of Wonder Woman, an Amazon princess with
amazing physical skills. Wonder Woman doesn't have
the faintest romantic interest in Bruce, but she likes
his warrior skills.

ie, pretend Katie is Penelope Cruz and Bruce moves on,
feeling some remorse and regret.

Wahoo! Now we can get someone who speaks out of the front of their mouth!

Whip-cha!

And I'd be pissed too if you pay the lady to talk about the movie and all she blabs about is her stinking engagement and life and stuff. I mean, who cares!

NOOOOOO!!!!!!
Just when i thought the bat-series would stop being shallow. I hoped the new franchise wouldn't stoop to the depths of redardedness of having a new bat-love in every movie, and show a slowly developing and consistently present leading lady. Batman is incapable of having a real relationship because he's too screwed up anyway, and Rachel Dawes realized that. That's why it was cool that she was going to stick around anyway, as a constant friend.
If they don't bring katie back, they will waste a great set up.

Shame on WB!

Great News
This is great news. She was the weakest element of the movie and the press coverage of her and Cruise was a big distraction. Just look at the photos of the premiere. Who's in most of the pictures? Cruise and Holmes. Star Christian Bale barely got any attention. Cruise and Holmes' relationship is clearly a big publicity stunt to help promote both of them and I'm glad to see it's backfired. I'm sick of actors who think they're bigger than the movies they star in. Have you noticed how the War of the Worlds poster doesn't have Cruise on it? Gee, I wonder why. For the next Batman movie, they need to find a strong actress who actually looks and talks like an adult. Michelle Pfeiffer was the best thing about Batman Returns, not just because of her character or the way she looked in the catsuit, but because she was a great match for Michael Keaton. The next movie needs to include someone who's a good match for Bale. She doesn't necessarily have to be a love interest, but she should be important to the story and not just a damsel in distress. But good riddance to Holmes and take Tom Cruise with you.

Whatever Vanilla Sky was damn good. I knew they had Bale signed to a three picture deal, nice to hear that their bringing back Caine and Freeman, but they need to get Nolan signed. Who I hear has hashed out a trilogy arc that pits the Dark Knight against the Joker in the 2nd and Two-Face in the 3rd. I think they should use some new villains though like Mad Hatter, Lady Shiva, or Ventriloquist & Scarface. As for the whole Holmes thing, I don't think they should change the cast, cause of her romance suposidly taking away publisity. If she's not in the 2nd film it should be becouse they had no use for her story line and that's it.
