AMC Theaters Offer a Money-Back Guarantee for "Cinderella Man"
In an exceedingly rare move from a theater chain, AMC Theaters promises to refund your ticket price if you can walk out of "Cinderella Man" and honestly say that you didn't enjoy the film.
According to Variety, the chain once ran a similar promotion for "Mystic Pizza" -- but that was back in 1988.
Ron Howard's "Cinderella Man" was once seen as a relatively sure bet for the grown-up moviegoers out there, but the film has barely cracked the $50 million mark, thus prompting this unique move from AMC Theaters. "We felt it was getting lost and we needed to bring more attention to it," says AMC spokesperson Pam Blase.
Universal's reaction to the promotion? "They always were vocal about how much they loved the movie, and they said we've got to do something to stimulate people to go ... I give them lots of 'attaboys' for being so bold," was the response from Uni distribution head Nikki Rocco.
So the bottom line, movie fans, is this: If you haven't seen "Cinderella Man" yet, and you think it's something you might enjoy, be sure to hit an AMC theater this weekend; it's not like you have anything to lose!

blur_republic writes: on Jun 29 2005 09:07 AM Silly This whole 'money back' scheme is downright silly. I'm not trying the undermine how good the movie might be (I haven't seen it yet, but am looking forward to it with bated breath), but anybody who has already seen the movie can just go back, watch the movie again (most of it anyways), walk out and claim he did not like the movie and demand his money back.. Tien21 writes: on Jun 29 2005 11:38 AM CRASH was better I saw this and I didn't think it was the greatest. I mean it was your typical Ron Howard film. It wasn't bad at all it was def pretty good, but a promotion like this is silly. CRASH didn't even hit $50 mil and I thought that movie was better for the subject matter alone. (Reply to this) |

Scott Weinberg writes: on Jun 29 2005 11:50 AM I didn't think the movie was anything brilliant (3 stars out of 5), but I applaud the theater chain for trying to support a movie they like. (Of course, they're still making BIG money on the concessions -- even if you come out and ask for your ticket money back!) (Reply to this) |

Yrk writes: on Jun 29 2005 12:45 PM i won't see this film for renee zelwegger alone, and i'm not a big fan of russell crowe either. plus the subject matter interests me very little. it all adds up to a big "no thanks" to me, regardless of any kind of promotion they're offering. like the production company said, they gambled on the timing of this film, and failed. accept it! why rerelease it later this year? that just shows how desperate you are for money, not how great you think the film is. as for amc, fine, stand behind a movie you like, whatever. but the biggest way to get me into your theatre is to lower the price of the unnecessarily costly bag of popcorn and a beverage. Ophiuchus writes: on Jul 04 2005 09:44 AM Sounds like a rash thing to do. They must be pretty darn sure of success to pull a stunt like that. As for me, I won't be taking them up on their offer, because I won't be going to see the movie. (Reply to this) |
