Jet Li May Join Jackie Chan and Zhang Yimou in Martial Arts Film
An interview with the Chinese newspaper Nanfang Daily yielded news of a possible cinematic dream team: Jackie Chan, director Zhang Yimou ("House of Flying Daggers," "Raise the Red Lantern"
, and, potentially, Jet Li. As noted at www.monkeypeaches.com, Zhang's producer/creative partner Zhang Weiping told the paper that they are at work on the script for the film, which would star Chan but would not be a comedy. Li is also looking to break out of his image, saying he would like to do something beyond martial arts films unless he loved the script. Both Chan and Li have expressed interest in working with one another; Li worked under Zhang's direction in "Hero."

Broken Sword writes: on Aug 17 2005 07:16 PM If there can only be one person to make this work than it's Yimou. Surely this won't be treated as no indie or foreign flick. With or with out Jet- it'll be another foreign language flick opening number one at the box office (the other being HERO) !!!! Which is really a rarity. (Reply to this) |

I assume its because of the difficult balancing act between ego and budget. It is still a great treat to watch DeNiro and Pacino together in, "HEAT", and seeing Chan and Li would be fantastic! countrycolors1 writes: on Aug 24 2005 03:54 PM Sorta an old martial arts fan fantasy to put Jackie and Jet together, but the fantasy was for them to work together in a movie where they could play their existing personas. Throw Zhang Yimou in there and that means you've got Jackie playing very largely against type and probably doing a lot more wirework and formal martial arts work too, which are all things he doesn't do very well. I suppose he could surprise us, but it could fall flat on its face too. Also doesn't sound like Jet Li is even confirmed, and he's the one whose sensibilities really fit Yimou's style. Sounds like the sort of thing that might not survive through development in its current form. One of those publicity stunt kind of casting notices to build up word of mouth and buzz on the project in the early stages. (Reply to this) |
