"V for Vendetta" Has A Tomatometer
"V for Vendetta," a tale of rebellion in futuristic England, is currently Fresh with a Tomatometer of 60 percent. With five reviews, this is the first Tomatometer score for the hotly anticipated film, which stars Natalie Portman.
The scribes say "Vendetta" is visually exciting, and has some of the same philisophical and political underpinnings as the "Matrix" movies. But some say the movie lacks a strong narrative pull.
The film, produced and written by Larry and Andy Wachowski (of "The Matrix" fame) is directed by James McTeigue. The film was adapted from the comic by Alan Moore, and is slated for release on St. Patrick's Day -- March 17, 2006.

Spike1967 writes: on Feb 28 2006 10:03 AM Why dont we all keep in mind this film has nothing to do with the Matrix films, and comparing it to this new film of theirs would be rather redundant. Does anyone remember the movie, Bound, they did before the Matrix films? It's quite good. You will agree these guys are no flash in the pan. (Reply to this) |

So now RT is putting teasers on their front page, shilling movies that don't even have any reviews up yet? Hey, I guess anything that makes them a buck is a good thing, but so much for whatever integrity I thought RT had. (Reply to this) |

DJ Jay Lion writes: on Feb 28 2006 11:45 AM This movie does NOT look impressive at all when I saw the trailer. I agree with a previous poster that opposing the government theme will not work for Americans. For Europeans, it will be heavenly. (Reply to this) |

D79 writes: on Feb 28 2006 12:12 PM i think it'll be cool. i mean i loved the graphic novel by alan moore. the wachowski's are only producing the film and also wrote the screenplay. i'm pretty sure it's a first time director. some dude that worked on the matrix films and the latest star wars. as far as the wachowski's go, take away the matrix and they're worthless. i mean assassins & bound weren’t exactly the best films. i don't know, i'm looking forward to both this & the watchmen... filmfan7 writes: on Feb 28 2006 01:08 PM Yahoo Buzz Index says Vendetta, Portman, and Hugo searches had a sudden upward surge last week, after the trailer. This could be really big. Kudos to the filmmakers for allowing advance reviews to be posted. Such a different approach from most movies these days. They must have a lot of faith in Vendetta's word of mouth to let the cranky critics have at it. (Reply to this) |

insanemansam5 writes: on Feb 28 2006 08:20 PM In reply to this comment (#831538) What's up with the RT hate. RT only hosts reviews it doesn't write them. If RT gets a film wrong it's because the critical community got it wrong as a whole. (Reply to this) |

mizzoucritic writes: on Mar 01 2006 12:51 AM Perhaps the RT hate stems from pointless articles that the editors put up and call 'news'. The 'news' articles titled "'Ultraviolet' Photo Update!" and "WB readies "Batman" and "Superman" sequels" are just PR and lately RT hasn't done the best job keeping the PR from mixing with news. The photo updates aren't that exciting, unless it's an especially hot film. While there are many "Equilibrium" fans out there (myself included), "Ultraviolet" is not a red hot film. The WB article doesn't tell us anything new - no deals had been closed with the directors for the sequels. So, the 'news' there was just a plea for RT to get more WB advertising money. I don't hate RT, I'm just starting to get a little frustrated... (Reply to this) |

The Senhman writes: on Mar 01 2006 01:32 AM In reply to this comment (#831540) Actually, we're not doing these articles to get more advertising money. For that, advertisers mostly look at your overall traffic and demographics. We do these articles because we think our users would be interested in them. "Ultraviolet" may not be a super hot movie, but it didn't stop our users from giving it 10,000 views in one day. As for the Batman and Superman article, it was reported by Variety. If it's good enough for Variety, it's good enough for us. As for this article, all we're doing is alerting our users that more reviews have been added. We're not doing this because WB told us to. Why would they? The new reviews were actually negative. Why is this newsworthy? Because "V for Vendetta" is the most talked about and hyped movie of the Spring. And guess what I see when I look at our traffic charts? It's the most viewed article of the year so far. Also, we're not NY Times; we're just a movie website. If you're getting frustrated with these articles, start submitting your own. We'll definitely consider them. (Reply to this) |

Paul_Is_Drunk writes: on Mar 01 2006 02:14 AM The most frustrating thing about any group that considers itself a niche demographic (albiet alternative rock critics, fans of comic books, or even RottenTomatoe enthusiests) is that they inevitebly turn on their own niche before getting riled up by opposing camps. Many people on this site would more quickly pounce on what they believe is selling out (from their ideal) before criticizing more prominent websites because they believe they have more say in it. Holy [censored], just because they post this news doesn't mean they are taking advertising money from the people you so despise. Lighten up. They still provide more pertinent news (for us RottenTomatoes fans at least) than anyone else. Would you rather have a day of no news or something like this. You'll lie to yourself, but you'd rather have this (because at least then you can bitch about it). (Reply to this) |

I like the ideas behind this movie. And I hope it will open peoples eyes to what actions and horrors are involved in revolution. That terrorism and revolution nearly go hand in hand. This is a perfect movie to release at this time. (Reply to this) |

Ashron writes: on Mar 06 2006 08:18 AM In reply to this comment (#831534) Why would opposing the government theme not work for Americans? I'm an American and I seriously oppose our current government. Granted, I'm NOT going to rush out and blow anything up, but I don't think most Europeans would either. I'm actually looking forward to this movie. (Reply to this) |
