Eli Roth Answers Stephen King's "Cell"
Horror nut Eli Roth ("Cabin Fever") will direct Dimension's movie version of Stephen King's "Cell," says Variety, as soon as he's finished helming "Hostel 2." Stephen King and Eli Roth? Sounds like a solid match to me...
"Dimension Films has acquired rights to Stephen King's latest novel "Cell" and has set "Hostel" helmer Eli Roth to direct it.
King's novel is a throwback to his early apocalyptic horror novels. In a single moment, a pulse sent out through cell phones around the world turns every phone user into a crazed, murderous zombie.
"The combination of technology and horror is fun high-concept," (Bob) Weinstein said. "And Eli will make it right after he finishes 'Hostel 2.' " Roth wants to write the pic or co-write it, depending on the time constraints created by his horror sequel, which shoots in Prague.
Roth said King is his favorite writer and accepted right after reading the book.
"I couldn't put it down. It was such a balls-out horror movie with a smart take on the zombie genre," Roth said."

Eli Roth with his over the top gore style will fit the story of Stephen King's "Cell" really well.The Story of the book is so crazy from what i read of it. I read a lil of "Cell" in the little portion of it in a issue of EW a month ago. Prepare for this movie to be extremely gory and have a hard R rating. Eli Roth does too much with scaring us with the violence and gore in his movies instead of scaring us with things that doesnt invovle so much of blood and severd limbs. Besides that he has talent and is a refreshing, unique type of horror director that i appericate even though some of his styles aren't my favorite. (Reply to this) |
on Mar 08 2006 03:28 PM It will be interesting to see how they adapt this. It is a pretty straightforward horror book for the most part, but the ending leaves a lot to interpretation, so it will be interesting to see how they resolve it in the movie. (Reply to this) |
on Apr 16 2006 08:30 PM Zombie movies are usually good for me. Some suck, but it and kids movies are my soft spots. Stephen King is a good writer, and I imagine the reason that Roth wants to do the screenplay is so some people don't mess it up in Hollywood. This should be good. (Reply to this) |
