Thor, Hulk, Captain America ... and a Few More New Marvels
by Scott Weinberg | April 28, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

While the hiring of Jon Favreau as "Iron Man" director is pretty exciting movie-geek news, it seems that Marvel's Avi Arad has a whole bunch of new projects just waiting to get underway. In addition to the Iron Guy's first adventure, we can now report some progress on titles like "The Ant Man," "Captain America," "Hulk 2," "Nick Fury," and (yes!) "Thor." Back to Article

well, when your comic book movies are averaging 150 million at the box office, why would they stop...i think this is great news, however. Seems like we have some promising talents trying to bring these adaptations to the big screen.

Sure, they'll all be pimped and merched to death, but look at the bright side. Chances are not ALL of them will suck. There just might be another Blade in the bunch.

And what's with all the Hank Pym hatin'?

I actually can't wait to see Ant Man. Since it's going to be directed by the co-creator of Shaun of the Dead, it will more than likely be hilarious and poke fun at Ant/Giant man.

I think that they should use that Wrestler HHH as Thor.

Not just because im whole heartedly opposed to the thought of Triple H playing Thor, but Triple H also doesn't look Nordic enough.

eh-emm, excuse me, yeah, most of these will probably suck, but like t-joint mentioned, one or two of them should be worth seeing. Hulk 2 written by the same guy who wrote Elektra? I think Hulk deserves more respect than that...

What exactly does Nordic look like? Anyway, Paul's acting ability is gonna disqualify him quicker than his looks.

I'd tell anyone who suggests actors to play Thor to keep in mind that, whomever they get, he's gonna have to be a DAMN fine thespian to pull off an earnest "Forsooth!" or a good "Hie thee back to the reeking pits of Muspelheim, thy craven curs, ere Mjolnir splits ye in twain!"

Nordic = Viking looking.

Basically hire some dude from the 13th warrior or some scandanavian guy, or the guy who played Boromir in lotr and you'll be set.

FYI, I'm Scandinavian. I know what we look like. ;-)

Just wondering how Paul doesn't fit the bill...not that I'd want him to, mind you.

Anyway, bringing up "13th Warrior", yeah, Vlad Kulich would make a terrific Thor.

Is Paul Triple H's name?

If thats who you're talking about, im just opposed to any sort of wrestler doing anything involving acting. I mean the rock is ok, but i also just don't see Triple H doing Thor at all. Hearing him talking about Odin and Loki and Mjolnir sounds like it would just butcher my ears.

Hey, I hear ya. You're preachin' to the choir there, dude. Last good movie a wrestler was in (in a speaking role) was probably Princess Bride. One big peev I have is whenever a superhero movie comes out everyone instantly starts naming wrestlers and Dwayne, in particular, for freakin' EVERYTHING! Is The Rock the new Will Smith? Speaks to the collective conscious of the general movie public, I guess. (involuntary shudder)

Oh, yeah, HHH's real name is Paul Levesque.

HE'S A WRESTLER!!!!! (grumble grumble)

...sorry. What I meant to say is Tyler Mane isn't a very good actor, hence the reason that the normally verbose Sabretooth didn't have a single line of dialogue.

first...
Tripple H as Thor? riiiiight.... the guy is not an actor.. HHH only can act like HHH.. and thats it. just cuase he goes around with a sledge hammer doesn't mean he can act like he's a norse god..

DC over marvel... lets see now... good DC Movies.. Superman, Batman and Batman Begins , after that, its Cat Woman, and Judge Dread.. a bit of a drop off there....

oh, and a pray to GOD that this particular project gets squashed

Ah, but contrarily, good Marvel: Blade, X-Men, & Spidey. You could also make the argument for Conan, even though that character isn't originally Marvel's. In the end, Marvel has FAR more marketable characters, so there's a greater chance for a bad movie. I would have thought FF, being Marvel's entire raison d'etre, would have been handled more reverently, but...

All I got to say is Avi Arad must die!

As far as DC goes, I wouldn't even put Catwoman in the DC movie category, because it wasn't Selena Kyle, the DC-verse Catwoman. And, while DC may have recently purchased the North American rights to publish Judge Dredd, it was a Rebellion (2000 AD) title when the movie was made back in '95. If you want some stinkeroonies, look no further than the last two Superman sequels and Schumacher's Batmans. I'd also put Constantine in there simply for messing so bad with the cultural feel of Hellblazer.

Well as far as the plethora, (new word of the day), of Marvel movies coming out, I think it's a good thing. I've waiting for these damn movies for a long time. For the most part they have all been decent movies. Compared to the 80's versions of these movies the Incredible Hulk should have won an Emmy.

Whether the films come out good or bad, the affirmation and acceptance of comics (not just Marvel, but in general) as a valid, respectable medium is a VERY good thing indeed.

Vladimir Kulich should be cast as the part of Thor. He was Buliwyf in The 13th Warrior.

everybody says that triple h cant act. why? because of blade3? i am a huge fan of the game and in the ring he is great. now with the acting thing. sorry but wesley snipes pissed mo off with blade3. blade1 was great, blade2 is one of my favorite marvel movies but blade3 was horrible. david goyer is a great writer no doubt but i guess it was his first movie he directed and noboby came out fine in this movie not even the special effects and the new ideas. they gave triple h the tinyest dog on earth and that dog looks like the villain in blade2 , blades mentor dies again, dracula was short, how bad was that? the only good thing was jessica biel (sure it would be hard to mess her). now this vladimir guy looks perfect for thor but he is to old sorry. if they do a trilogy like always then he has 60 years on his back, why not take ric flair for it haha. then an extreme body builder who cant even move his arms to take a hammer? i mean what the ....? i wanna see thor kick ass. triple h may be the best for it. toby mcguire trained his body to bacome spider-man so why cant triple h train his acting skills in six months. when i see topher grace as venom, now that will be funny. i prefer brock lessnar. marvel will do like always cast a no name with no muscle and no likeness with the comic. everybody wanna see a big muscular venom and we got a skinny one. colossus is great in x-men and he was 2minutes in the last stand. where was the fight between colosus and juggernaut? come on marvel. i even wanna see captain america to be played by john cena. the rock had to begin too and in his first movie, he was totally computer animated and he had the support of arnold behind him in his second movie. triple h can be great for the role. just give him a chance and a good directer and we will see.
