New Hulk Escaped from Prison?
by Scott Weinberg | August 18, 2006
Discuss Article
So far we have a villain (Abomination), a director (Louis Leterrier), and a title ("The Incredible Hulk") for the "Hulk" sequel ... but we don't have a HULK yet! Looks like SuperheroHype.com might have a little info in that department.

From SuperheroHype.com: "A scooper alerted us that "Prison Break" star Dominic Purcell appeared on New York radio station WPLJ this morning and was asked by hosts Scott Shannon and Todd Pettengill whether he is up for the role of Bruce Banner/Hulk in Marvel Studios' "The Incredible Hulk."

Purcell didn't confirm or deny his involvement but the tone of his voice is pretty much a giveaway that he is at least in talks. But don't take our word for it, you can listen to the clip yourself here!"

And by "here!," they mean right here.

I don't care about a Hulk sequel so much I'm compelled to actually post a comment stating how much I don't care. How's THAT for not caring?

Is it me, or is this new Marvel Studios deperately trying to justify it's own existence?

37 is too young? He's only 2 years younger than Eric Bana.
Dom would make a fine Hulk

just leave him the hulk....all CG!
i'm pretty sure there are dozens of "incredible hulk" issues where the hulk never reverts back to banner but instead roams the world as just the hulk... just leave the hulk as the hulk and forget about banner altogether for 1 movie.... ang lee's hulk == classic film.

Why not a CGI Banner who looks just like Bana?

Eric Bana was perfect. He was NOT the problem with the first film.

I don't mind Purcell as an actor, but as Dr. Bruce Banner? Bana (whom I liked regardless) was a stretch from the gawky scientist in the comics, but Dom's even further off.

Why is this being heralded as a sequel? With so many changes in style, tone, and cast, they might as well call it a franchise reboot.

I can't say I'm terribly excited. Ang Lee's Hulk was well-done and vastly underappreciated. I worry that, in order to make this film more palatable to action audiences, this film is going to end up playing more to the Daredevil/Fantastic Four crowd than the Batman Begins/Superman Returns crowd.

You would rather have this guy than Ang Lee!!!
I don't care what the "true" Hulk fans have to say, Ang Lee's version was as good as it gets. The cinematography, the cuts and editing, the PURPOSELY cartoonish Hulk were all well done. The film flowed very well. Nick Nolte's character had a deep psychological undercurrent that tranfered well into Eric Bana's Hulk. The only thing that was off was the dialougue, but the best writers always avoid "comic book" movies. Now just for fun, let's compare Ang Lee's work with Luis Laterrier's
Laterrier- Unleashed (terrible)
Transpoter 2 (terrible but enoyable)
Ang Lee- Ride with the Devil (Brilliant), the Ice Storm(Brilliant) Crouching Tiger(Very good), Eat Drink Man Woman (Brilliant),BrokeBack Mountain(Excellent, a bit overrated though), Sense and Sensibility (Brilliant)

I guess people would rather have there comic-movies thoughtless, artless, poorly directed action scenes so they went with Laterrier

I like him on Prison Break, but he was a horrible dracula, as said above. But I really don't care about this movie that much and I don't care about him, so that's cool if he gets the role. And I hate to break it to yea Mikeal420 but the first one was pretty bad and Unleashed was actually a good film.

Eric Bana is cool, and definitely brought something special to the role of Banner...sad to hear he won't be in the sequel.

I'm under the suspicion that you are actually Ang Lee himself. And how can you dare say Transporter 2 is better than Unleashed. I hope you fall down a well and brake your leg. And no, Ang's Hulk could have been better. When people think of the hulk, they think of Hulk smashing. Get a grip on the subject your speaking of. And yeah, I liked Hulk, but it was more boring than it should have been

Intelligent Hulk fans, however, think of Hulk as a character with lots of potential for emotional and psychological substance. Hulk smashing stuff is great to watch, but without the drama the character becomes shallow. Peter David and Bill Mantlo were the best that could happen to Hulk and, imo, the way to go. Ang Lee understood this principle, eventhough he never read the comics.
