Set Pics: "Day of the Dead" & "The Golden Compass"
by Scott Weinberg | September 15, 2006
Discuss Article
What do Chris Weitz's "The Golden Compass" adaptation and Steve Miner's "Day of the Dead" remake have in common? Absolutely nothing ... except for the fact that set pics from both flicks have recently surfaced on the interweb. So click on through if you're interested.

The "Golden Compass" pics come from BBC's Newsround (with an assist from ComingSoon.net), while the "Day of the Dead" stills come courtesy of Fangoria.com and screenwriter Jeremy Reddick.

One portfolio contains pics of trees and fields and castles. The other has gory zombies. You guess which is which.

Those pics look like they're from "Day of the Dead 2: Contagium" which this flick probably won't be much better than.

Ving Rhames must really love zombie movies. are we talking the traditional slow zombies or the running zombies for this Day remake?

Well, as George Romero said at Dragon Con, anything that runs isn't a zombie.

AM I THE ONLY PERSON WHO THINKS 1985'S DAY OF THE
I enjoyed the 1985 Day of the Dead enough; it was the origin of the ultra strong female character; the opening scene was pretty memorable in the streets-- wasn't there a cool gator? The zombie sitting up is a cool shot.... Bubba was a cool character; that crazy General Rhodes is a great character... Sean of the Dead used Bubba and the elevator out of the silo ideas... I've enjoyed the original Day of the Dead over a number of viewings.... underrated and very watchable.....

Very hesitant about this - POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!!
I am a massive fan of the original day of the dead, for me its the best of all the dead films (I know not many will agree with me and I'll no doubt get told I'm wrong) but I'm not really looking forward to the remake. I think the Dawn remake was very well done, different to the origianl but very enjoyable (missing a few good feeding scenes though) however from what I've heard about the Day remake I'm dubious to say the least. I've heard that the Bub character is one of the main characters who gets bitten and turns - rahter than being a zombie from the begining - and when he turns he just doesnt attack people. WHAT?!?!? What made the original Bub work so well was the transition he went through from mindless zombie to something completely different. There doesnt seems to be any logic for the updated version. He just turns into a zombie whio doesnt eat people. I heard its because he was a vegatarian as a human. Think that says it all. Hope I'm wrong and all this is just rumor.

Well, before you get jumped on too hard, I'll side with you and saw that Day was probably my favorite too, if only from an acting standpoint. And I enjoyed the story. The Jamaican helicopter pilot ruled.

Wow, it looks like I'm not alone on this one. Woohoo lol.
Totally agree with you about the pilot - what a guy!

I wasn't a huge fan of Day of the Dead, but far be it from me to tell anyone they're wrong for their opinion!
I'd disagree that Day of the Dead was the origin of the ultra strong female character, though.
Alien came several years before DotD, and Ripley was MUCH tougher than the lady in Day, IMHO.
But Ripley wasn't even the first - just the first one I thought of.

Wow, those pics look awful. If we really, REALLY need a Day remake, let's get Zack Snyder back to do it.
