Vivaldi Pic Lands a Fiennes Lead
Baroque fans rejoice! Joseph Fiennes has been cast in the role of composer Antonio Vivaldi (in one of two competing biopics in the works), in which he'll play the music man as a young priest.
The pic, entitled "Antonio Vivaldi," is helmed by television director Boris Damast and boasts a supporting cast that already includes Lena Headey, Zuleikha Robinson, and screen vets Malcolm McDowell and Jacqueline Bisset.
From Variety:
"Biopic follows the composer as a young priest assigned to serve as music master of a school for the abandoned, illegitimate daughters of Venice's courtesans. He bonds with the girls, which leads to his landing a concert of his music before the pope."
As if that weren't exciting enough, French thespian Gerard Depardieu is in talks to join the production's Fiennes company.
