Marilyn Manson to Star in "Rocky Horror" Remake?
by Scott Weinberg | October 25, 2006
Discuss Article
I remember hearing this particular bit of movie gossip about three years ago, but the story seems to have kicked up again recently. Unfounded "buzz" indicates that freaky rocker Marilyn Manson has been approached by Fox to star as Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry's role) in a new version of the cult mega-classic that is "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

From Bloody-Disgusting.com: "B-D reader 'Time Warper' writes in to B-D, "In a recent interview with E!, shock-rocker Marilyn Manson revealed that 20th Century Fox has approached him to star as the sweet transvestite, Dr. Frank-N-Furter, in an update of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, tentatively titled Rocky Horror."

A "Rocky Horror" remake? Anyone out there think this is a great idea? If so, why?

Unless Curry makes a cameo role, this remake will suck.

i was a rhps cast member for over 7 years and we had heard rumers that it would have been ted danson as furter. no rhps remake. now if they made the resurrection of frank-furter, like i have been hearing for years, then that would be awesome. stick with curry and let there be lips.

I thought the Manson fad had past. I don't think you could remake this movie in todays world it would just seem stupid.

Agreed. And the whole appeal of RHPS is the audience interaction. Watch the movie by itself and it's at most a mediocre sci-fi comedy with a great soundtrack. Why bother?

This is one flick they should not mess with. Part of the charm is the tacky old film with low production values. Please please please don't waste the time in redoing Rocky Horror!!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This better not happen, there is nothing that they could improve upon in this movie. I don't want Marilyn Manson singing "Sweet Transvestite" cuz he'll probably be dressed in that stupid white suit.

Ah, come on. This could be fun. His wife, Dita Von Teese, could play Magenta. Johnny Depp could play Riff-Raff. Axel Rose could play Eddie. Tara Reid could play Janet. Orlando Bloom could play Brad. And Will Ferrell could play the Criminologist.

anyone else think Tim Burton will be sought to direct? sounds like the kind of eccentric project he'd do.

no no no no.
i agree with the person who said about audience interaction. The live shows are so much better than the film because of the retorts you can throw at the actors etc! The film is great too but to think about re-making it is just horrendous. Part of its charm was the year it was made and being so out there! it shocked and amused people..nowadays, there are so mnay clubs to go to for perverse pleasure!!!!

I agree with the audience interaction thing. People who don't know about the original will think it's stupid.

RHPS is a classic that is being appreciated by this generation already - no need for a lame remake. Considering tonight is the night where many theaters will run RHPS...you should go check out the midnight Halloween show, bring a friend, and do some people watching.
