Tony Scott's "Warriors" Remake is Gearing Up
by Scott Weinberg | November 17, 2006
Discuss Article
Although it hasn't been "officially" announced just yet, the rather stylish director Tony Scott has been getting ready to helm a remake of Walter Hill's "The Warriors" for some time now. And with his "Deja Vu" all finished and ready for release, Mr. Scott seems ready to rumble with the gangs.

From IGN Movies: " "The Warriors is in the cards very soon ... I'm creating a journey from Long Beach to Santa Monica, to Venice, so I'm going to create this sort of little fictionalized journey. But it's going to be a lot tougher and I'll use a lot of the real world -- the real gangs, the real people -- in the movie. That's why I call it Kingdom of Heaven, my brother's [Ridley Scott's] movie, in terms of scale, versus [the original] The Warriors."

"I love the movie," he says of the original. "And what I've done is make it contemporary, and I'm going to shoot it contemporary by shooting it here. The original Warriors was New York in the '70s, and everything went upwards, everything went vertically. And now I'm making it a contemporary thing and doing it in L.A., so everything is horizontal. So my vision of The Warriors is Los Angeles in 2007 and the gangs, instead of being 30, are going to be 3,000 or 5,000."

Well...
Latino Review says the script sucked big time, so maybe that should be the first priority, Mr.Scott.

Tony Scott's movies have been increasingly bad. Domino for example had no redeming qualities, well Keira did get naked. You can't remake a campy movie and set it in modern times. The 70's style look of the warriors adds to its appeal. Expect one big music video with thousands of jump cuts.

After sharing many glasses of hatorade for Man on Fire, I finally sucked it up and watched the damn thing. Yes, Man on Fire was good and I feel that the overall tone of the movie and the direction was good and is eactly what this film needs. But yes, you can have good direction, but it all comes down to the script. You can't direct BAD WRITING. DO US SOME JUSTICE AND GET US SOME DIALOGUE, DAMNIT. Plus, cast James Remar as the one of the cops that bust Ajax. For me, Tony. For me.

Why does he always have pieces of white fluff floating around in his movies. Is it like John Woo with the doves? But instead of symbolizing piece.....

Domino had no redeeming qualities? You might need to watch it again.

If any movie should ever be remade(which none should), this is one that deserves it.

One person in Hollywood will have to burn in hell for all these crap remakes, and I nominate Tony Scott. A crap director wh's been riding Tarantino's "True Romance" script for too long.

Two words for you - music videos.

Have you watched The Warriors lately? Man, it was cool for the time. I remember my friends and I going to see it at midnight movies and coming out ready to pick a fight. Of course, we would have had our asses handed to us if we actually tried. But the movie has not aged well. It is SLOW, almost to the point of pain. The fight scenes are still way cool, but just way too much downtime between them. Don't get me wrong, I still love the movie, but I have no particular problem with a remake. I've never figured out this whole "raping my childhood" thing. Just because a movie is remade doesn't mean it invalidates the original. It's just like a bad movie being made out of a good book. The book is still there to read. This new Warriors won't ruin the old Warriors. Everybody relax. And Tony Scott has had more hits than misses, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I have to agree, in this sense: most remakes that suck only solidify the classic status of the original. Regarding horror remakes, for example, how many times have we heard how much the remake DOESN'T measure up to the original?

Now, this isn't the case with sequels which, especially if made too far after the original, usually end up cheapening the experience. We'll have to see what happens with Rambo IV, Rocky VI, Die Hard IV, and Indy IV.

No, I can't dig the idea of this movie. I'm sure Mark Wahlberg, or some other white rapper will take the role of Swan; perhaps Kevin Ferderline will still be on the radar by the time they cast the movie. I just hope they cast someone cool as Cochise, but since it's Tony Scott, I'm sure Damon Wayans, or someone just as equally bad will take the role.

Why ruin a good movie?!
Why change everything about a movie except the title and one character and call it a remake? That's like peeing on my leg and saying it's raining!!!!

If you want to remake 'The Warriors' follow these guide
1. Keep it in N.Y.C
2. Keep the OG's
3. Keep the same gangs
4. Don't think of Omitting "Warriors...come out to play-i-ay!"
5. DO NOT GET RID OF THE BASEBALL FURIES!!!!!

If Cyrus were to hear about this he would say "That's Crap Brothers!!!"

revenge against remakes
I have refused to watch Jim Carrey as The Grinch. I don't care to see Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller as Starsky & Hutch. I'd rather watch my season one DVD's of Charlie's Angels than endure the kid from E.T., a goofy supermodel and Rucey Roo while they ruin another happy memory of mine on celluloid. The best revenge against needless remakes is to NOT watch them. Boycott The Warriors remake in '08 or any time they release it. By refusing to watch and purchase their product, we may force Hollywood to come up with something more original (like Domino) rather than chewing up our favorite movies and puking them back at us.

And yes, I do still watch the original animated version of Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas every December.

"You're a vile one, Mr. Grinch.
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetness
Of a seasick crocodile,
Mr. Grinch.

Given the choice between the two of you
I'd take the seasick crocodile."

Boris Karloff rules!!

I wouldn't mind a remake if it wasn't him making it .... Tony Scott couldn't direct his way out of a paper bag.

I seriously hate him more with each movie he makes.. at best his movies are all style and no substance - and at worst they are boring and sometimes exhausting to watch.

but for those who honestly think Man on Fire (RT 39%) torture-fest, one of the 10 worst films that year - is a good movie... I can't help you.
