Gyllenhaal and Eckhart to Show Up During "The Dark Knight"?
Boy, is there anything more fun that gossiping and speculating about which actors will get which supporting roles in the next superhero movies? Well, yeah, actually. There's lots of things more fun. But this is what we do here at RT Newsday, so here's the latest: Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhaal are the latest names to be tossed into the "Dark Knight" pool.
According to IGN Movies, Aaron Eckhart seems to be the newest front-runner to play Gotham district attorney Harvey Dent (aka the guy who eventually becomes the villainous Two-Face). Not long ago Ryan Phillippe was allegedly being semi-courted for the job, but Eckhart looks to be in the lead right now.
And in the latest round of "Who'll Be Batman's Gal?" we have a new name to offer: Could it be Maggie Gyllenhaal (and not Rachel McAdams or Emily Blunt) who'll step into the role vacated by Tom Cruise's former actress of a wife? Only time will tell. Plus, once they cast these roles and the cameras start shooting, most of the fun-time conjecture just washes away.
But yeah: Eckhart and Gyllenhaal. I'd be down with both of those picks.

arpeggio191 writes: on Feb 06 2007 06:24 AM i like eckhart for dent... that would be a decent choice, better than phillippe anyway. I agree... I prefered blunt to McAdams (although would have been totally fine with her). I'm ok with gyllenhall too, cause as i've said before, anything is better than katie holmes and her stupid nipples. - unless of course it's The Gift, which was the best part of that shitty movie. McAdams would be perfect for the role and would set up her career just fine . . . I still wouldn't be surprised if Ed Norton gets it though . . . which is just fine (Reply to this) |

TomasSPAGHetti writes: on Feb 06 2007 09:43 AM I'm a little worried about Eckhart being able to pull off the duality of the character. He always seemed a little cheesy to me. If Nolan is saying he'll cast people from left field, then why choose Eckhart, he's been playing that role of smooth-talking, law enforcing/breaking dude for a while. We can all imagine how he would play Harvey/Two-Face. Norton would be great for the role, but also predictable.... I still think it's gonna be someone we don't see coming. As for Maggie, I honestly don't care who nabs the part cuz I'm still pissed they didn't ditch Rachel(?) for the character of Talia. Maybe even throw in Vickie Vale... this Rachel stuff's gotta go. Rachel McAdams would be perfect in my opinion. I'm just still hoping they change the female lead character to someone more interesting. (Reply to this) |

His demeanor, composure and everything about him remind me completely of this character. Anyone agree? (Reply to this) |

topher4 writes: on Feb 06 2007 10:21 AM I'm all for Eckhart playing Harvey Dent, because he's an amazing actor and could really pull off the part. I'm not to crazy about Maggie possibly getting the part of Rachel. I'd rather see Rachel McAdams get the part, or in my opinion an even better choice would be Michelle Monaghan. (Reply to this) |
