Even Rupert Murdoch Wants a "Borat" Sequel!
Fox mega-boss Rupert Murdoch announced yesterday that a "Borat 2" was pretty much guaranteed ... but then one of his employees spoke up and clarified the situation just a little.
Quote #1 from FinancialTimes.com: "(Sacha Baron) Cohen will "come back and do Borat Two," Mr Murdoch said during an interview at a conference in New York."
Quote #2 from The Hollywood Reporter: ""We're eager to work with Sacha again, and we've had casual discussions about a sequel, which we'd love to do, but at this point it remains too preliminary to discuss," said Chris Petrikin, senior vp, corporate communications at Fox."
Basically what happened here is this: Rupert Murdoch plainly admits that he loves "Borat" (the movie, not necessarily the character), and so his enthusiasm for a sequel took over. Good for Murdoch, I say. Nice to know he's a movie fan.
And c'mon, let's face it: "Borat" made almost $250 million worlwide from a production budget of less than $20 million. If you think there won't be a sequel, you're nuts.

nogard64 writes: on Feb 09 2007 09:28 AM TALK ABOUT DUH! no matter what you think movies and hollywood is about, saving the world, feeding the hungry in Africa, fighting for gay rights. End of the day its about the benjamins! And this would be a no brainer! With how hot Borat is, Cohen can film the next movie him taking a dump for 2 hours and it will still be a 100 mil hit! Just how the business works. (Reply to this) |

eastern2western writes: on Feb 09 2007 11:52 AM talk is cheap How the hell are they going to pull the shit off? Right now everyone in the world knows who borat is. There is no way he can pull it off. The only reason why first borat is in america instead of UK is because the character is too well known in his home country. (Reply to this) |

dagreenman18 writes: on Feb 09 2007 04:28 PM But Borat had his happy ending, there is no point for a sequel. I say, let Sacha do Bruno, then if he feels honestly compelled to make a Borat sequel, then let him. (Reply to this) |

(Survivor, Joe millionaire, American idol, ect). and we still watch them. (Reply to this) |

fizzypulp writes: on Feb 12 2007 03:13 AM In reply to this comment (#855306) True but the whole idea of Borat is the unsuspecting public where as in the programmes you talk about, the contestants know what they are doing and who they are dealing with. Total different kettle of fish. The Ali G mnovie bombed because they amde it inot a nice story rather than Ali G talkign to the public...this is when Sacha's characters work well, when people dont have a clue whats gong on.
