Penn Supports "Harold and Kumar" Changes
Kal Penn is busy at work on the currently untitled "Harold and Kumar" sequel. Originally called "Harold and Kumar Go to Amsterdam," the writers adapted their story to follow the duo on the run from Homeland Security in the south.
"The guys that wrote the first one, they wrote the second one," said Penn. "I trust them implicitly with their layers of comedy. Like the first one, if all you get out of it is that it's a stoner movie, then that's fine. But hopefully you'll see some of the subversive political elements of it, too."
And that's not to say there might not be some foreign adventure in the film too. "Who says that we don't get to Amsterdam by the end? Similar to not showing up at White Castle five minutes after we took our first hit, we don't show up in Amsterdam right after wanting to leave. But I think we might get there by the end."
One of the original's best jokes was the celebrity cameo by Neil Patrick Harris, playing a coke snorting womanizer. Harris is back, with no change in light of his public outing. "Something a lot of people don't understand, Neil, in the first one, is not playing himself. Neil is playing Neil Patrick Harris. So if you look at credits, if he was playing himself, it would say, 'Neil Patrick Harris...Himself.' But it says, 'Neil Patrick Harris, playing Neil Patrick Harris.' So he's playing a version of Neil Patrick Harris."

Oh Neil Patrick Harris totally made the first movie and totally makes How I Met Your Mother funny. (Reply to this) |
