Eva Marie Saint Talks (Briefly) About "Superman" Sequel
While lovable old actress Eva Marie Saint was done performing at Bowling Green State University, some of the students asked her about (what else?) when she'd be returning for the "Superman Returns" sequel -- and the gal had some info!
OK, so it's nothing all that shocking: Ms. Saint reported that she had indeed signed on for a Part 2, although she has no idea who the villain might be. She also mentioned that her character might hang out a bit with Lois Lane and her super-kid, but beyond that the actress either doesn't know ... or cannot say.
The (allegedly) $270 million "Superman Returns" grossed about $391 million in worldwide box office last summer. Producers were obviously expecting a bigger hit, but they weren't so disappointed as to cancel the sequel plans. More on "S2" when it becomes available.

on Apr 19 2007 07:57 AM While somewhat disappointed by the lack of action in Superman Returns, I still really liked the movie and am looking forward to teh sequel, which I am sure will have more action (i.e. "Super feats") than SR. Brandon Routh did a great job and I am sure that he will mature into the role quite nicely. As for Eva Marie Saint, she was the perfect choice for Martha Kent and it was terrific to see Singer use a star of her pedigree. (Reply to this) |

on Apr 19 2007 09:19 AM I really liked Superman Returns. I especially liked how the story acknowledged and incorporated the first two Chris Reeves' movies. And I hope Bryan Singer does the sequel too. I believe he'll acknowledge all the fan-shouting for an Actiony Super Villian, but still have the action serve the characters and story. Go Singer! I guess all the nay-saying, overly critical cry baibies have moved on to something else. "Superman Returns" was a great movie and a worthy re-boot of the series. The next one will be even better. on Apr 19 2007 08:00 PM Superman Returns was a really weird movie for me. I was very excited when I saw it in theaters and more or less enjoyed it, but the second time I watched it, I thought it stunk. First off, Superman, who's supposed to uphold traditional American values, gets a woman pregnant and doesn't even stick around to be a father to the child. Lois has apparently been sleeping around or something because she doesn't even know who the kids' real dad is for 6-7 years until Superman comes back. So then Superman is showing remorse because he's no longer part of Lois' Life, when very easily could've been had he not chosen to go on a 7 year soul searching journey or whatever. So he decides, oh well, I'll just spy on them every night and watch them have dinner with my x-ray vision. But as it always is, he IS Superman, so obviously Lois will come back to him, leaving her current husband, who's a great guy, out in the rain, and this guy HAS been a dad to her kid. And as if all of that wasn't enough to bother me, they have to have only 10 minutes of solid action, a recycled, overused villain, and a pale, pasty, kind of skinny guy playing Superman. THAT is why I did not like Superman Returns.^ (Reply to this) |

on Apr 19 2007 09:06 PM I was expecting so much more from this movie. Kate Bosworth was too much of a pouter to be Lois Lane, the plot wasn't very good (so Lex is going to hang out on that rock-land crap forever?), and Superman going to the hospital? Please. At the very end of the movie when he leaves Lois, I just felt so let down. But I liked Routh and Eva Marie Saint, Posey, and Spacey. And unlike a lot of others, I didn't mind the kid story arc. And I do like Singer. So hopefully the next one will be better. But it's so hard I believe to make a movie about a guy that really has no weakness other than kryptonite. (Reply to this) |

I think it was just too "adult" for some of the fanboys who've yet to go out into the real world. If you didn't like the storyline, the kid, Routh, Singer, or anything else about Superman Returns, why waste time posting negative comments concerning the sequel, about which you know nothing? Maybe you should leave your parent's house. Go outside and experience life. Meet a girl [or a guy]. Get a job that doesn't involve wearing a uniform and a hat, and asking people "would you like fries with that?" (Reply to this) |

I think that's something a lot of people can relate to. Secondly, he obviously didn't know Lois was pregnant, so the point about him abandoning his knocked up girlfriend is moot. Also she probably knew all along that the kid was his but probably really hoped he'd grow up normal for his own sake. Lastly I thought the way they handled the whole love triangle was very cool. She DIDN'T leave the good guy Richard for Superman, which would have been the very cliche thing to do. I don't think what I'm saying here is particularly insightful, It was pretty clear in the movie.
