Keanu Says No to "Watchmen"
by Scott Weinberg | June 15, 2007
Discuss Article
Last week we heard about a few of Zack Snyder's potential "wish list" actors for his "Watchmen" adaptation. Scratch one name off...

Apparently Keanu Reeves has no interest in taking part of the "Watchmen" project. Mr. Reeves' official site got word that he was offered a role, but passed. That is all.

And before we start beating up on Keanu Reeves, let's not forget he turned down a truckload of money on "Speed 2." Still, it's going to be fun watching this "Watchmen" cast come together. We'll keep you posted.

I saw this news story I actually said out load, "Thank God!"

(Strange looks from co-workers...)

He works on some level, kind of like an everyman, particularly visually, but he has been type cast from now until eternity. Comic book, action movies, science fiction movies should raise the bar a lot and pass on Mr. Reeves.

My only question is, what part did he turn down? That'd be interesting to know.

Rumors say that he was up for... ready...? Dr. Manhattan.

Just rumors, but holy crap!

I say again... Thank God!

As much as you want to say it was good for the movie, I'd say it was better for Keanu. This movie is going to bomb, whether he's in it or not. Maybe he realized you can't do Watchmen justice in a 2-hour movie and he didn't want his fingerprints on it. The question to ask is...if Keanu turns it down, who's your second choice...Chris Klein?

Yeah, what part?
I had seen talk of Keanu in relation to the Dr. Manhattan role. Dr. Manhattan, in Watchmen, is pretty much the only super-powered being on Earth and the reason why the AMericans and Russians haven't gone to war yet. He's pretty odd and has pretty much detached himself from mankind. When he leaves the planet, as part of an elaborate scheme of the story's villain, everything starts to go to hell. If that's the role that Keanu was being talked about for, than he could have been pretty good for it. He might have also been a good Rorscach, who's another weirdo, and the guy that starts to put it all together.

If they offered Keanu the main role then it's very obvious they are not even trying to make a good movie.

Keanu Reeves' career is in the crapper anyway...
Its no wonder he turned down being part of one of the potentionally biggest graphic novel adaptations ever! I guess it sucks to be him...

You know, if he had to be SOMEONE I guess Rorscach would be OK. But you know who would make a great Rorscach? Michael Biehn! Ooooooo..... I just thought of that! Someone get me the casting director on the line!

Years from now we'll laugh and shake our heads as Reeves passed up Watchmen but did The Watcher.

Don't really care one way or the other, but how is his career in the crapper? It takes more than one crappy Sandy Bullock movie to end a career. Just look how many Sandy Bullucks had and she can still find work. I think Neo will still be able to find a job for at least a few more years.

keanu reeves is a deacent actor. he was pretty decent in the matrix, and he was the only good thing about constantine. despite that, i'm glad he's not in this movie. he wouldnt of fit.

Yes, let's indeed not forget that Keanu turned down a truckload of money for Speed 2... in order to tour with his garage band, which is probably the only he could possibly done that would have been lamer than Speed 2, the plot of which should have been: If the cruise liner traveling through urban LA drops below 50 knots Keanu Reeve's garage band explodes.
