Monsters vs. Aliens Flees Cameron's Avatar Release Date
CGI toon to bow in March, not May, of 2009.
Looks like yesterday's report about some major release-date shuffling by the studios was just the tip of the iceberg.
According to Variety, DreamWorks -- in an effort to avoid a direct showdown with James Cameron's Avatar -- has moved its computer-animated Monsters vs. Aliens from May 15 up to March 27, 2009. Though Avatar (which opens May 22) is a sci-fi action movie and Monsters vs. Aliens is a family-friendly cartoon, both movies will be shown in 3D, and with only so many screens to go around, DreamWorks understandably wanted to avoid splitting the market.
The article goes on to discuss the schedule shifts we talked about yesterday, chalking up the date change for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to "challenging schedules" for the cast; it also sheds a little more light on the Jerry Bruckheimer production G-Force. In our original report, as you might recall, we were all dumbfounded by (and a little afraid of) the description of the film as "a live-action/CGI family feature...which follows a group of intelligent animal commandos working for a government agency trying to prevent an evil billionaire from taking over the world."
Well, now you can add "a comedy adventure about guinea pigs as secret agents" to the list of synopses.
Also on the release schedule? A Sony-produced animated adaptation of the classic children's book Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. To read more about all these scheduling shenanigans, click on through to the link below and...wait, guinea pigs as secret agents? Really?

I have a feeling that itīs going to be one of the best films ever made, Cameronīs a solid filmmaker, I doubt celine will be on the sountrack ;-P (Reply to this) |

Floor Man writes: on Sep 20 2007 06:40 PM Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs? That's one of those books I grew up with, and was one of my favorites (just like the first Shrek, which was a good movie, but pissed me off because they did what they did to it). It's still special to me...don't ruin it! Gah! Hollywood. *Sigh*.... I...am...stoked. For Avatar. (Reply to this) |
