Another Rupert Murdoch entry. Does it look like I have something against the guy? Nah....
======== Remember the assurances made by Rupert Murdoch about editorial independence and trying not to change the Wall Street Journal all that much? Well, changes are a coming to the paper. Today, Stuart Karle, the general counsel for the WSJ since 1992, was fired and was given till the end of March to pack up. |

Well, I'm starting a new site at Endofboredom.com. Starting over without a lot of resources is kind of refreshing. Haven't felt this much excitement in awhile. Below is something I wrote about Rupert Murdoch.
=========== Hugo Restall, the Editor of the Far Eastern Economic Review (FEER), a monthly publication with a circulation of less than 200k, had commissioned a review of a book critical of Rupert Murdoch but later chose not to publish it. He admitted to getting "cold feet." News Corp. acquired the FEER when it acquired its publisher, Dow Jones. Written by Bruce Dover, the book Rupert's Adventures in China: How Murdoch Lost a Fortune and Found a Wife detailed Murdoch's efforts in the 90s to establish a presence in China by making deals with Chinese politicians. From the International Herald Tribune article, Philip Bowring, a former editor of The Review and a columnist with the International Herald Tribune, said that the magazine, one of the oldest and most storied in Asia, had a history of taking on authority, including its major shareholders. "They are still defending their case in Singapore," said Bowring, adding that Singapore's leaders might take note of what appeared to be "double standards." The decision on publication of the book review is "not in accord with the tradition of The Far Eastern Economic Review, at least as it was several years ago," he said. |

*Update*
My issue with FIM is now resolved. I've started a blog at Endofboredom.com. Come on over and participate in the discussion of current events. I will still blog about personal stuff at Alive. All my blogging will be done at alive not dead from now on. FIM has officially pissed me off. I'll fill you in later. Head over to read my random ramblings...or see a picture of my red stapler! |

Going to have oral surgery to remove 4 (!) "impacted" wisdom teeth on the 25th. Apparently, I don't have enough jaw for them to grow out normally. They're at weird angles and if they're not removed, Armageddon will play out in my mouth sometimes in the future, according to the surgeon.
*UPDATE* I survived. What was it like? Well, it was just as painful and gruling as trying to write a 750 words essay when all I had to say about that topic only extended to 300... |
|
Isn't this a late age to be getting them extracted, or is that how Armageddon factors in? 1 Reply | Yea, I second that. I thought normally you get your wisdom teeth pulled at an early age. 1 Reply | You're assuming I took care of my teeth and wanted to visit the dentist at that age... 0 Replies | "Armageddon will play out in my mouth" 1 Reply | I *did* think of you when I read that phrase. 1 Reply | It's fitting to say that when the surgeon told me the adjacent molars will get damaged as well as possibility of infections and what have you. 0 Replies | Did you have a SPOT-TY time of it? 1 Reply | What, you couldn't say, "Hope you're not seeing spots"? Or, "Click here to read what critics are saying about his surgeon"? 1 Reply | I lack your talent. 0 Replies | Hope your mouth is ok. 1 Reply | Much better now. What I say now has less bite, as you can guess. 0 Replies

Children cold medication not only useless but dangerous as well, the FDA panel concluded.

|
That's pretty scary. 0 Replies | Maybe I wasn't imagining things as a kid when I thought the Robitussin wasn't doing anything useful... 1 Reply | Yeah, most cold medications are almost like snake oils. 0 Replies

Oh well, I should have plenty to do in the mean time. 0 Replies | Hope to see you soon in HK! Will be back from Xiamen on the 17th. 1 Reply | Yeah, I definitely want to meet up with you guys while I'm there. 0 Replies | Are you going to be shooting the sequel to The Beautiful Country? http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/beautiful_country/about.php 1 Reply | Can't believe you actually recalled that one :P 1 Reply | Somehow I came across it the first... but you guys already knew about it. I remember little things like this for some odd reason. 0 Replies | Have fun Binh! Give Stephen, Pat, Raphi, and Mark all a boot to the head or something for me :) 0 Replies

How bizarre. Met the guy (Michael Idemoto) from Charlotte Sometimes today. He was at the office working on a couple of our computers. Really small world.
|
|
Oh... Michael is a really nice guy. I hung out with him and Eric Byler when Charlotte Sometimes was playing at Ebertfest. 0 Replies | Can you believe he works for FIM out of LA? Michael's up here temporarily to take over Artem's duties since he left in a quick hurry with no one taking over for him. 0 Replies
