This morning, someone left a message on my answering machine apologizing for not calling me back last night - his phone didn't tell him he had a new VM until this morning.
Then I hear this beep. And a sigh. And another beep. And another sigh. And another beep. And "you mother fucker." And a final beep. Seems he had some problems ending the call. Okay, so the transcript isn't as funny. |

Oh shit.
"People who have had more than five oral-sex partners in their lifetime are 250% more likely to have throat cancer than those who do not have oral sex, a new study suggests..." More on towleroad.com I quit smoking, people. That's as far as I'm willing to go. Do you think it's worse if you're blowing a smoker? Just asking. |

From the Chicago Sun Times:
"Allen W. Lee, 18, has been charged with disorderly conduct stemming from an essay that was part of a "free writing'' assignment in a creative writing class.... The paper allegedly made a vague reference to a fictional school shooting in McHenry County but didn't specify a school or district, a law enforcement source said." Full article. I wonder where he possibly could have come up with the idea for a school shooting? Certainly not from People. Or Time. Or Newsweek. Or US News & World Report. |

Please. After an incident in which 33 students are shot, it's vitally important that we not actually have high school students talking about it. They might.. uh... have feelings or something. 1 Reply | Dude, feelings suck. 0 Replies | In the time it took me to register and everything, I FORGOT WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY. Rest assured that it was poignant AND witty. 1 Reply | Of course it was, dear. 0 Replies | Hey Ro! I bet Chicago rocks! "We may be through with the past, but the past is not through with us.
Not only is that one of my favorite lines from any move ever, it's also a good headline for what I feel like writing aboot.
I've been playing with my categories and, in doing so, I've been in Mass Categorization - which means that I've been looking at some older entries. This is something I do not do. I've never read an old journal, either. I don't know why, I just don't. But since I just did, here are some things I thought were worth revisiting: October 12th, 06: It's Fucking Snowing!!!: I was actually surprised to find that I bitched aboot the weather, since I usually follow the advice of the Dodo ("And I never ever ever / Do a thing about the weather / Cause the weather never ever / Does a thing for me."). Why do I bring this up now? It snowed yesterday. As in April 4th. As in six months later. I LOVE CHICAGO!!! Okay, that's only one, but I have to get back to work (temping now). |

2 hightlights:
What have people been saying about the previous seasons? Any criticisms that you didn't expect? It can't be mere coincidence that the comments people make to me are so consistent. And the designers for whom there are the most frequent comments are the ''final four'' [Jeffrey, Laura, Michael, and Uli], plus Vincent, Angela, and Alison. The only time that I balked and almost had to be resuscitated was when someone told me that they loved Vincent's work. When I recovered, I had to persuade myself that they were confusing his work with that of someone else! How is your new job at Liz Claiborne? More fabulous than I could adequately describe. The use of both "fabulous" and "adequately" in the same sentence is the very essence of Tim Gunn. Complete article. |

...the role of Martha, usually played by Kathleen Turner, will be played by Deidre Madigan.
Nothing against Ms. Madigan, who was perfectly in the role, but for Christ's sake, I was already in the back row of the Schubert, wasn't that enough? I almost turned in my ticket. I came very very close. But what the hell else was I going to do - sit at home and pout? Bill Irwin was in, after all, and he won the Tony. And I'd never seen the play, only the movie. Still, it royally sucked ass - the situation I mean, not the show. I couldn't help but try and put KT in the role. I wanted to see a Martha with her kind of inherent sultriness. Irwin was amazing and Madigan was probably terrific, it's just hard to tell. This is the second time this has happened to me. The first was Rachel York in the last Bway revival of Kiss Me, Kate. The understudy was pefectly fine as well, but I needed York to counteract the fact that Fred/Pertruchio was played by Rex fucking Smith - who tapped his foot to the music during his big solos. {growl} |
