Cannibal Apocalypse (1980)
Agrees With....
Posted on 6/6/06 at 2:08 AM I really wasn’t expecting much from this movie so I can’t technically say it was disappointing. For the most part it was exactly what I expected it to be. The sound track is literally a stereotypical example of what a late 70s to early 80s B-movie soundtrack is. It pretty much hung around in the background with almost “porn film” tempo and usefulness. The acting was real rough in some spots and average in most. The police captain is particularly “unintentionally funny” through out most of the movie thanks to has ham and cheese performance.
The special effects in the film aren’t too bad. It has its share of gore effects and even a Vietnam War era combat part. The “cannibal” parts of the film are done quite gruesomely. I was surprised to find the main plot had some decent potential. Although it doesn’t really show a collapse of society (the Apocalypse is in the title only), it does have some elements that we end up seeing decades later the movie 28 Days Later. The cannibalism is spread by bite much like “the rage” is. Once infected, people in this film don’t turn into mindless killers. They retain their intelligence and communication skills. They are normal except for the fact that they have an urge to eat the flesh of their fellow humans. The disease spread by bite is never really used to its full potential like it was in 28 Days Later and there really never is an apocalypse. This was a pretty simple B-movie release that might interest die hard horror genre fans who like some gore effects and don’t need solid acting to entertain them. Other than that it isn’t really worth a viewing, at least not a viewing that would cost money in some way. If this ever plays on the late night cable movie channels, it might give you a laugh. |
