When we're on a mission, I keep count of how many ninja my father kills. He says not to keep count, only to pray for their souls. But if I don't keep count, I don't know how many souls to pray for. So I keep count. So far it's three hundred and forty-two.

A bunch of devil worshippers have the powers to melt people. They are after the Preston family because they have a magic book that they believe will allow them to reincarnate the devil. The cult captures the youngest son of the Prestons and kills him. Mark Preston, the oldest brother, will hunt down the cult in hopes of stopping the manhunt that plagues his family.

“They’re all burning.”

Robert Fuest, director of Just like a Woman, Revenge of the Stepford Wives, and Aphrodite, delivers Devil’s Rain. The storyline for this film is horrendous; however, Fuest does an excellent job of placing the scenes in wonderful settings and backdrops. The soundtrack is okay and a bit uneven. The cast was wonderful in name only and includes William Shatner, Ernest Borgnine, Tom Skerritt, John Travolta, and Lisa Todd.

“I do not underestimate your powers, nor do I overestimate them.”

This film grabbed our attention based on its fantastic cast. Despite delivering relatively mediocre performances, it was still interesting to see this cast in these awkward roles. The special effects were a bit laughable, and the film was tough to watch at times; however, any horror movie with William Shatner is a must see. ;) I do not recommend this movie to anyone, even the most faithful horror movie junky. :D

“Did you bring the book?”

Grade: D

You're right the cast is the highlight especially ERNEST BORGNINE in DEVIL'S RAIN, but I remember seeing this film in the theater as a kid and scared to death. The whole concept of devil worshipping and crazy high jinx coupled with human sacrifice was fun for impressionable tweeners like me back in the day. The kid's today are not as gullible as we were in the '70's but maybe that's because they are so bombarded with graphic sex and violence images. Films like DEVIL'S RAIN are considered campy now but my friends and I would watch films like DEVIL'S RAIN or SATAN SCHOOL FOR GIRLS and wonder what was going on in our neighborhood.

That is hilarious. I love watching these old films. They have their positive aspects (the settings in this film were excellent). Nevertheless, you have to admit this is a pretty bad film.

I felt the way you did about these films with films like Friday the 13th, Blair Witch, and Lake Placid...but I grew up in Maine. :D
