DVD List, Revised

Posted on 7/23/07 at 4:35 PM | Last edited on 7/23/07 at 4:25 PM

So I sold a lot of my DVD collection because I wasn't watching these films enough to truly get my money's worth out of them. What films Amoeba wouldn't take from me, I gave to others. Now, my collection is as follows:

About Schmidt
American Beauty
Arrested Development (Ssn. 1-3)
The Bicycle Thief
Big Fish
Chicken Run
Commando
The Deer Hunter
Die Hard
Dr. Strangelove Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Ed Wood
El Rostro De La Muerte
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Face/Off
Fight Club
Freaks and Geeks: The Complete Series
The Godfather
Goodfellas
In the Company of Men
L.A. Confidential
Mystic River
The Natural
North by Northwest
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
The Proposition
The Royal Tenenbaums
Schindler's List
Seven Samurai
The Shawshank Redemption
The Silence of the Lambs
The Simpsons: The Complete 4th Season
Stand By Me
The Talented Mr. Ripley
Team America: World Police
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Three Kings
The Truman Show
When the Levees Broke: a Tragedy in Four Acts
The Work of Director Spike Jonze

I'd like to think this list is comprised of movies that I actually do watch from time to time, and yet I haven't popped in one of these all summer. When I quit my part-time job at Blockbuster in the coming weeks, I plan to give up a lot more of this collection.

I don't plan on making many journal entries here.

So it's not the largest ever, and I'm missing a lot of foreign films and classic films, but I figure as I grow older and learn to appreciate them more, I'll pick them up. I'm also missing some essentials because my old roommate owned them (Saving Private Ryan, Se7en, and many others), but now that he's moved out, I should probably play catch-up. In case you're wondering how I can afford all of these, A) I can't, not really, and B) if you're fortunate enough to live in Los Angeles, then you must know all about the used DVD section at Amoeba Records on Sunset, and what an absolute godsend it is. About 80% of this collection was bought, movie by movie, for under 8 bucks each.
