So I sold a lot of my DVD collection because I wasn't watching these films enough to truly get my money's worth out of them. What films Amoeba wouldn't take from me, I gave to others. Now, my collection is as follows:
About Schmidt American Beauty Arrested Development (Ssn. 1-3) The Bicycle Thief Big Fish Chicken Run Commando The Deer Hunter Die Hard Dr. Strangelove Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Ed Wood El Rostro De La Muerte Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Face/Off Fight Club Freaks and Geeks: The Complete Series The Godfather Goodfellas In the Company of Men L.A. When I quit my part-time job at Blockbuster in the coming weeks, I plan to give up a lot more of this collection. |

I don't plan on making many journal entries here.
I'll just give you a list of the DVDs that are currently in my collection. That should give you an idea of what kind of movie lover I am, and on this site, hell, that's all you need to know anyway. About Schmidt After Hours Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore American Beauty Apocalypse Now Redux Audition Anchorman (with Wake Up Ron Burgundy) Arrested Development, Seasons 1, 2 and 3 Baaadasssss! The Bicycle Thief Big Fish Blade Runner (Director's Cut, natch) Blood Simple Bloody Sunday The Bourne Supremacy Bowling for Columbine Chicken Run Cinema Paradiso Commando Dazed & Confused Desperado Die Hard Dr. Strangelove or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Donnie Darko (Director's Cut...that was a mistake) Duel Easy Rider Ed Wood Edward Scissorhands El Mariachi El Rostro de la Muerte Eraserhead Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Exorcist (the version YOU'VE NEVER SEEN OMFG) Fawlty Towers, Volume 1 Face/Off Fight Club Go The Gods Must Be Crazy Goodfellas Hard Boiled I'm Gonna Git You Sucka In the Company of Men L.A. Confidential Little Shop of Horrors (not the musical, the Roger Corman one with Jack Nicholson) Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels Mac & Me The Magnificent Seven The Manchurian Candidate March of the Penguins Martin Scorcese's Who's That Knocking at My Door? Mean Streets Midnight Express A Mighty Wind Monty Python's The Meaning of Life MST3K: Collection Vol. 2, The Essentials, & Red Zone Cuba Mystic River North by Northwest O Brother Where Art Thou? The Office, Season One (UK Version) Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Raging Bull Rain Man Raising Arizona Ran Reefer Madness The Royal Tenenbaums Schindler's List Seven Samurai The Shawshank Redemption The Silence of the Lambs The Simpsons, Season 4 Snatch Stand By Me The Talented Mr. Ripley Taxi Driver Team America: World Police Terminator 2: Judgment Day The Truman Show A Very Long Engagement The Work of Director Spike Jonze So it's not the largest ever, and I'm missing a lot of foreign films and classic films, but I figure as I grow older and learn to appreciate them more, I'll pick them up. I'm also missing some essentials because my old roommate owned them (Saving Private Ryan, Se7en, and many others), but now that he's moved out, I should probably play catch-up. In case you're wondering how I can afford all of these, A) I can't, not really, and B) if you're fortunate enough to live in Los Angeles, then you must know all about the used DVD section at Amoeba Records on Sunset, and what an absolute godsend it is. About 80% of this collection was bought, movie by movie, for under 8 bucks each. |
