10th AND WOLF uses every cliché there is for a mafia movie…but as a fan of such movies I don’t really see that as a problem. 10TH AND WOLF is about a young man coming... More

Buried Alive was directed by Robert Kurtzman, who directed the first Wishmaster film, and is generally known for his work in the makeup and special effects departments. The cast is made up of Leah Rachel, Steve Sandvoss, Lindsey Scott, Germaine De Leon, Erin Lokitz, and Terence Jay. However it is marketed with the name Tobin Bell featured predominantly, since he has a role and was such a huge success with the Saw film series.

The plot involves a pair of cousins and friends going to a desert cabin which has a sordid past involving a gold claim. Apparently, one of the family members chose to murder their wife and hide the gold and now the ghost of the entombed wife comes back to wreak vengeance on those relatives who would dare come visit the place; searching for gold and etc.

The filmmakers should have just made the movie they obviously wanted and dropped the whole horror movie theme altogether. This movie should have just been pornography. The story is written and the characters are basic porno fodder. The women are all hot, loose sluts and the men are really swarmy and for the most part creepy looking guys, who for some reason have no trouble meeting these hot women and getting them to drop their clothes. Two of the characters are cousins and apparently they’re kissing cousins because there is an underlying incest fantasy being played out through the film as well. None of this is truly captured in a tongue-in-cheek comedy sort of way, to at least make the film "fun"

The horror plot of the film has an old corpse looking lady with an axe appears first in dreams and then in reality to chop these kids up. I guess the corpse make-up looks good, but nothing all that stand out interesting. Why she chooses to make appearances and spook the kids many times before actually getting down to the killing is a mystery.

The acting within the roles is all disposable. There is some nice eye-candy for people who enjoy seeing naked women, and there is an opening up close butt shot of a dude, but then again the flesh isn’t really acting per-say; just jiggles a little. Tobin Bell is Lester the old caretaker of the place who digs in the basement for gold. However, if the legend of this property was as well known as it seems to be and gold has been buried there for decades, why are they just now digging little holes in the cellar looking for it? I for one cannot see Tobin Bell in other low-budget horror without him being that guy from Saw; sorry to typecast you Bell. In this he is an old dude who talks to himself.

So then -
Actors -They weren’t needed, a shadow puppet show would have been scarier and more entertaining, unless it was shadow puppet porn, in that case there should have just been less crappy dialog and more sex.

Story - Basic horror revenge of a ghost thing only handled stupidly and without shadow puppets. Also involves a sorority initiation sub-plot with the girls which feels straight out of a crappy National Lampoon Dvd. Did I mention one of the guys is a cliché NERD, with the glasses and pocket protector and all that?

The only people I would recommend this film to would be the foot fetish people collecting film scenes, it opens with a close up of a girls foot hanging over the tub edge and then that same girl later rubs her feet on a dude’s crotch with close camera work. Other than that, just rent some porn if that’s what you like and get some satisfaction.

Buried Alive should be burned not buried.
