I finally watched it. I was afraid I would hate it, and I did. There were few funny moments, chase scenes that went on forever and way too much CGI. Someone please take the CGI away from Lucas. He doesn't know how to use it. Don't even get me started on the plot.

Yeah, the technology got a little out of hand, but the movie was glorious from start to finish. I was actually surprised to see the underlying statements that seemed to be directed at the Bush administration's illegal wire-tapping. Ledger's performance was probably exactly what Burton and Nicholson dreamed about doing, but they were clearly the inspiration and if it wasn't for the excellent work they did, this film couldn't have existed. It was a perfect performance. Crazy, impossible, yet grounded in the real world. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and I wish it could have been 6 hours long. I thought that Aaron Echkart played his part as perfect. Honestly, strong performances across the board. Nothing felt forced, it flowed so well. Maybe my favorite movie of all time. Yeah, I went there.

Zzzzzzzzzz... huh? Is the movie over? Nothing interesting happened. Bad acting, made for tv script, crappy soundtrack... I could go on.

When the movie was over, my wife turned to me and said "I liked Transformers better." I responded by slapping her with my pimp hand. People around us in the theatre looked shocked and dismayed at the fact that I struck my wife in public. Calmly I just said "She said she liked transformers better." Everyone was completely understanding then. Later she told me that she didn't like Gwyneth Paltrow in her role. Due to the fact that my wife is Mexican or El Salvadorian or something, she often tells me how unsexy most American actresses are. I kind of agree with her, but I think Paltrow was toning down the sexiness because that's what the character called for. There was too much of her in the film, and most of her appearance was a bit bland. The sexual tension between characters seemed forced. Anyway, the movie was solid. As much so as Batman Begins, but with laughs. Even though some of the subject matter of the film was serious, the light-hearted material worked when it was supposed to, and it never got cheesey. This is a great work of solid filmwork. I hope Ed Norton and crew are taking notes right now. One complaint: The soundtrack/music score was completely forgettable. I've always liked to link my superheroes to orchastrated music in my head, but this one had nothing to offer.

What a terrible movie. I found the now-laughable original more exciting. I think the writer suffered from a terrible case of writer's block and wasn't able to come up with a climax or an ending. Good to watch if you have insomnia. It will put you to sleep.

The story is completely unoriginal, the music is forgetable, and the characters are a little plain, but it is still watchable thanks to good CGI, decent costume work, and just enough excitement to keep you barely awake. (Honestly, I fell asleep, but my kids liked it enough to get me to watch it again the next day).
