The Bridge brothers as a pianoplaying duo? It sounds interesting, and it's not all that bad. Some really good scenes, and even funny at times. I can't really put the... More

Film noir at its finest! Edward G. Robinson plays exellently Chris Cross, a rather dull but loyal cashier who is given a golden watch for 25 years service. A late evening he sees a young woman being hitted by a man and he comes to her rescue. She is grateful and they go to a bar and start talking. Her name was Kitty and she was young and beautiful and Chris instantly falls for her. She never tells him that she has a boyfriend and netherless that it was he who hitted her, and he doesn´t speak too much about his nightmarish wife who terrorizes him day through evening. Kitty gets the impression that Chris is a rich and famous painter though he in fact is just an amateur but yet very talented. Kitty and her boyfriend see opportunities to use the poor old man. Kitty makes Chris believe she loves him and she begs him to buy her an apartment. Chris stoles some money from his wife and buys an apartment for Kitty, where he also etablishs a studio he can paint in. Johnny, Kitty´s boyfriend takes care of the paintings and sells them in Kittys name. Kitty soon gets known as a very famous artist and in the end Chris realises that he´s been tricked.

This is one of my favorite Fritz Lang-noir and its so unique in its way, thrilling, and entertaining. A movie that wakes lots of emotions. The end is very interesting and follows the Hays Code, that you can´t commit murder without being punished.
