A Clockwork Orange is one of the most important films of our time. It is absolutely disturbing of course but is very clever and smart. Each moment is fantastic. Of... More

I was told Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was a very strange movie and I thought it would be a romantic comedy/drama, but it is not that at all. It is defiantly... More

I had borrowed City of God from a friend and I just kept putting off watching it. Today I finaly just sat down and decided to watch it. Let me tell you that City of God is nothing short of a masterpiece. Everything about this movie is great. The acting, the direction, the story, the writing, and the list goes on and on. City of God is my favorite foreign film. Now I have not seen many foreign films but after seeing this one I am going to see many more. People have called this movie the extremly violent Slumdog Millionare. If anything Slumdog took a lot from this film. The film is about gang life in what looks to me is the worst slum in the world, Rio. It's narrated by a photographer named Rocket who seems to be caught in the middle between Li'l Z'e's gang and Carrot's gang. The character of Li'l Z'e (or Li'l Dice earlier in the movie) is one of the great villians commited to the movie. The actor portraying him did a fabulous job and really made you believe the evilness of the character. Fernando Meirelles did such an amazing job directing the film, it was so great. He used many different styles of camerawork which I liked. I have never felt so much for the direction of a film since I saw A Clockwork Orange. All in all, City of God is one of the best films ever made. Definetly in my top 50. TEN STARS!

I have a chance to buy this at my local (closing) Blockbuster for $8. I think based on this review I am going to bite the bullet.
