Terminator Salvation (2009)
Agrees With....
Posted on 11/7/09 at 8:24 AM | Last edited on 11/7/09 at 11:20 AM Terminator Salvation is an action packed thrill ride that all and all makes you want to vomit. I’m not saying it’s not enjoyable. Lots of eye candy at every turn but as Plex the robot would say “Too much candy will make you sick”
What humanity is left when human beings in order to survive an apocalyptic world must become living breathing machines of war? What salvation is there for a world that is void of all color and hope? How can you manage to defeat a faceless relentless enemy with a 0% casualty rate and mankind dwindling on the edge of extinction? Logically are the Terminators destined to fail in order to preserve there existence in the first place? All these questions and more are completely ignored. That’s not to say they should be answered, after all this is a pointless action film but I just thought the Terminator Franchise (even after the dreadful Rise of the Machines Film) was much more then pointless action. With John Connor reminding every one he was Batman in a previous film droning on and on in that scratchy Gravely voice of his, its easy to brush off any attempts at acting but as always the actor does have his moments. The real star here is Sam Worthington playing Marcus Phoenix. One scene in particular, Marcus is on the verge of murdering someone for attacking a companion of his and the look in his eyes is frighteningly believable. I look forward to following this actor’s career in the future. The most disappointing thing about this franchise for me was the absence of a clear cut Villain. Terminator had Arnold, Terminator 2 had the T-100 played brilliantly by Robert Patrick and even 3 had the femme fatal Kristina Loken. All this movie has is big loud and noisy, easily killed and stupid. How these booming lugs sneak up on anyone is a mystery in itself. I’m not saying I expected this movie to further deepen the already confusing time paradox of Terminator, I’m just saying it should respect the fan’s enough to have something happen that furthers the story. This seemed more like a film to re establish the franchise for future films. Regardless of its many flaws it was exciting to see a great performance from New Comer Sam Worthington and refreshing to see the franchise get a reboot. Hopefully with the sequels they can improve on the John Conner character and create a story people will actually care about. |
