Allegorically pointless. Julianne Moore was, given the script and direction, wonderful. The classic Spinal Tap line comes to mind: "It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever." I expect this film will divide viewers, which may be its greatest achievement if it is to leave a moral impression. Meirelles has done Saramago few favours with this work.
