Final Fantasy 8 was my personal fave, had a grown up/mature feeling because of the graphics and story. Completed the game twice. A Friend at work just purchased FF7 and we have been discussing it. I loaded up an extremely old save point, from about 7 years ago and completed the game again from that point.
Completed 7,8,10. Never really got into 9. Took me four years to complete 10, picked it up in 6th form one summer and didn't touch it until the following summer. Went to Uni, didn't continue the game until the summer break and then last year during xmas break I finished, talk about value for money. If i'm honest the magic, for me, has gone.

I'll have to say Final Fantasy 7 for many reasons. None because I am conforming. One is the haunting feeling of almost the entire game. Not to seem dark or anti-social, but because it is an alternative to gay (not the homosexual gay) and unrealistic happiness of other titles. Granted most others are great too and have unhappy, hard, and dangerous journies as well. Final Fantasy 7 is also just great fun. The fun factor is helped by many things: The Golden Saucer is only one. Many natural gameplay areas and maps, locations and events are fun to play. The entire atmosphere of this game is great. The battle system is fantastic, not to hard but challenging. There are secrets, hidden Bosses and materia and items. There is adventure around every turn and always excitement. Some titles in the series that share these qualities are 9, 1, and 5 and FF tactics, but none surpass this great titles, which is quite possibly the greatest RPG, or even game ever made. If I only I could think of all the great things to say about it right now.<br>

For everyone who said blitzball was a made mini-game, same on you. It was probably one of my favorites, which is why I like FFX so much.

I'd have to say IX and X.
FFIX: Because of it's epic length and all the mini games. Chocobo hunting, the card game, the optional bosses (anyone else beat Ozma?) FFX: Because of the bonus Aeons and the very addicting blitzball.

Final Fantasy II because it monitors how you use your party members & builds your stats according to how you actually play rather than from leveling up. So should I be surprised that I have two chars who deal out 900 damage from barehanded fighting and I can hardly ever runaway from a battle? Their magic levels also stink.
Apart from that I have to say either Final Fantasy 6 or 9 because they left a great deal of customizing. If you equip an Esper for a while in FF6 you can learn certain spells. FF9 was that much better because every item of equipment taught different spells. Great customization. FF8 could also be a favorite because of the junctioning system.

Ff7
I would definaltley say FF7. I'm not saying it just because it's the only one iv'e ever played, ive played a lot. It's probably the best because of the compelling gamplay, story, and by far some of the best boss battles Iv'e ever played. FF7 also has the most side games for extra story line like the recent Crisis Core or even the movie Advent Children. If i didn't choose FF7 FF10 would be up there at the top along with FF9.

1. FF VII was the best. I played through it atleast 4 times. The look, the feel, the story, and the characters are all amazing. It is much darker and more realistic than the other games - not just in terms of bad things happening, but the way it deals with it and the general attitude and atmosphere of the game. which is why i am excited about FFXIII versus when i saw the screenshots. Plus it was fun. lots of mini-games and variations to keep it interesting, whereas minigames were either turned into tedious time consuming distractions (the card game in VIII and IX) or heavily reduced all-together.
2. FFVI - was an amazing game for the time. I played it for the first time last year (on the FF Anthologies game for the PSX that i played on my PS2 while everyone else was purchasing PS3s). even with 16-bit sprites the production of this game is amazing - the opening, the opera scene, the ghost train, etc. are all solemn and beautiful and some of the most memorable moments in FF history. the largest character cast, fun gameplay, epic and complex story, and maybe my favorite FF character (Terra) makes this game a close 2nd. 3. FFT - now playing Tactics (War of the Lions) on my psp. complex serious story, deep and addictive strategy gameplay, and they speaketh in the tongue of Ould English (making it awesome). 4. FFX - amazing graphics, great story. seemed a little shallow at times though - and the sequel cheapened it for me. 5. FFIX - good in theory to go back to old style, especially after ffviii, but the execution was off. the game felt like it was not serious enough and it lacked good characters (except for vivi. but Quina - wtf was taht?) 6. FFVIII - very ambitious game when it came out. it tries to be an epic, but ends up annoying main character, bad gameplay, bad plot-twists, no non-human characters. but it still has the classic psx-era look and feel to it which i like so much and i have to give it some respect for its ambitious and epic feel. 7. FFXII - combine Vagrant Story gameplay and Star Wars story and you get crap. This game was just not fun. I only liked a third of the main characters (Balthier and Fran), the plot was boring, and there was no motivation to explore your surroundings. I really hope Square turns things around 180 degrees for ffxiii

My favorite is definitely 9 and it is the father of final fantasy's(Hironobu Sakagichi) personal favorite as well, saying "Final Fantasy IX is everything that a final fantasy should be." Final Fantasy VII is definitely overrated and milked dry for all that its worth. If cloud were to be reincarnated to some human from this generation he would definitely be avoided and described as some emotional kid who lies a lot and doesn't have any friends. Zidane on the other hand would be descibed as the life of the party and chivalrous beyond any other. Anyways, people will always disagree with each other when it comes to final fantasy, but it will definitely be the overzealous FFVII lovers who just wont accept anyone elses opinions. |

I played US I, II(IV), and III(VI), VII, and all the US gameboy versions.
Finaly Fantasy VI is by far the best out of the ones I've played. Later when FFVII came out, a friend recommended it to me. I played FFVII about halfway and was absolutely disgusted by it, I couldn't play it. After FFVII I've been turned off from playing the newer FF game. I highly recommend to anyone who has never played any of the older FF games to try them, especially FFVI. Last edited by john s.; 08-07-2009 at 10:42 AM. |

I haven't played all FF games, but I have played a considerable number of them... in my opinion the rank for those I have played is: FF 8, FF X-2, FF X, FF 9, FF 4, FF 7.
I have FF XII, but still can't find the time or the will to play it since I already know that there's no romantic relationship between the main characters (Vaan and Ashe). For the main characters, the rank is: Rinoa, Rikku, Yuna, Aerith, Squall, Dagger, Rosa, Cecil, Tidus, Zidane, Cloud, Paine Last edited by Barman S.; 08-12-2009 at 01:51 PM. Reason: Formatting |

FFVII. Whilst there are very good points made about all of them, this is the only one I played right through.
I know, shame on me, right?

The best is Final Fantasy X. The graphics were great for a 2001 game, and the game plot was awesome. Along with that it had a great mini-game. FFX is definitely the best one out there.

while final fantasy 7 is the first big ff series to hit the states i also believe it is highly over rated..though sephiroth is(my opinion) the best villain in all the series, cloud comes across as corny
, and typical the whole lone wolf attitude even when i played him in dissidia he bothers me no personality(btw almost dropped a tear when aerith was killed, i was like 11). as game series go, i believe ff8 has the best storyline, music, the game play isnt bad even though there are some boring parts, and has a really good junction system, overall, best game play, and unique characters goes to ff10(plus good, music, and blitz ball is Awesome , x2 was entertaining at first, then became very shallow, i cant see myself playing it again ..ff9 was fun in , just that , nothing else(little monkey kid), ff11 was soooo boring no comment i literally returned it after 2 days.. |
