Drag Me To Hell..... wtf is the big deal?

I waited for this weekend to buy the dvd, was thrilled to watch it, and it just fell flat on me. I read most reviews and saw the 92% Tomatometer and thought that I was in for a ride. I sat and watched in awe as it was neither a frightening, nor hilarious, yet boring campy thrill ride.

Little did I know there's a 2 minute version on the net.

The damn trailer

I'm going to watch it again before I go to sleep, but am I alone in thinking that this was a solid C+/B- instead of the A++ it's been made out to be?

I thought it was a solid flick. Much better than 95% of the other horror flicks that get put out which are garbage.

Did you ever notice white comedians make jokes like that and black comedians make jokes like this?

The trailer is nothing like the movie. The trailer seems like another run of the mill horror flick and the toned down the Sam Raiminess of the movie a lot. what do you think of the Evil Dead movies?

By no means am I trying to say it was bad, in any way. I just don't understand the hype.

Good? Yes.

Great? No.

Love both Evil Dead movies, and Army. I get the "Raiminess" of Drag, but I guess I just wanted more.

I enjoyed it. I wish Justin Long would've had a more active role, but it's nice to see Raimi making a horror movie again.

I enjoyed it. Good scares, some fun moments. I was not expecting it to be great - but a movie does not have to be for it to get 92%! Remember there is no middle ground - it's either awful or it's not. Thus why the score. People enjoyed it - and so did I.

I think you can safely chalk it up to Evil Dead nostalgia. Not that it's a bad film - you have to admit, the cat-fight alone was worth the price of admission - but it did have some fairly lengthy sections of boredom and the twist ending was just weak.

This is definitely the 'Evil Dead 2' Raimi introduced to a 2009 pg-13 audience. The ending caught me off gaurd, watching the eyes turn to embers was intense. I've heard Raimi is remaking Evil Dead; I hope he does. I like the horror trend of remaking classics, seems to say that the themes are timeless.

I love it. One of the best horror movies in years. I thought it was perfect mix of scares and over the top campy humour. Still my favorite of the year.

It was a funny movie and sure it was campy but I liked that. I think most critics thought it was a good b-grade movie nothing more nothing less.

While the two are positively coorelated critical acclaim and the tamatometer are not equivical. The tamtometer only judges how many critics liked or did not like a film. It has no power to ask individuals critics what exactly they thought of a movie.

While it's generally good the tamometer alone isn't always accurate. For example, if you went just by the tamatometer the Freaky Friday remake would appear to be more critically acclaimed than Forrest Gump and Toy Story 2 would appear to be the most critically acclaimed film of all time.

I liked it yet was still disappointed.

I felt like the script was actually kind of bad. Instead of building any sense of forward momentum or impending doom, we get a string of slapstick-y set pieces and "boo" gags that, though somewhat entertaining, get quite repetitive. In the beginning of the film, Raimi introduces this notion of how it takes 3 days, etcetera for the demons to take over. Here we have something to build a narrative around. Suspense, a ticking time bomb. It's perfect. But it goes completely unused. For shame.
